If the players weren't on such stupid money then the managers' salaries wouldn't be such an issue. The boss shouldn't be on less than any of the staff, imo. Back to the OP- if I were Rodgers I'd keep schtum and get on with it. Do your best until the hammer falls- show yourself to be professional.
1. Jose Mourinho – Chelsea – £8.37m-a-year (£160,962 pw) 2. Louis van Gaal – Man United – £7m-a-year (£134,615 pw) 3. Arsene Wenger – Arsenal – £6.89m-a-year (£132,500 pw) 4. Manuel Pellegrini – Man City – £3.47m-a-year (£66,731 pw) 5. Brendan Rodgers – Liverpool – £3.25m-a-year (£62,500 pw) Surprised at Pellegrini / Man City is so out of touch with the top three. Anyone see FSG more than doubling the managers wage to get someone such as Ancelotti or Klopp? The fact Brod is managing a squad where the vast majority of the players earn more than him is a joke tbh. However, same could probably be said for Mourinho too!
Apparently when Fergie was at Utd he had it written in to his contract that he would always earn more than the highest paid Utd player. Makes it a lot easier if a player can't turn around to a manager and say " the club rate me higher than you, as they pay me more". It also helps if you are a mad, drunk of a Scotsman with a violent temper!
To be fair, Mourinho is the best manager in the world and can command anything he wants. LVG has a very good CV but Man United were desperate for a half decent manager once they sacked Moyes. Wenger did a great job at Arsenal and has a lot of power and respect.
Going back to the OP - because I love Liverpool, I would realise that I'm doing more harm than good and as much as I would like to stay and do my best to turn it out, I would get to the point where the position becomes untenable. I would walk but I don't blame Rodgers for not walking. He's entitled to a big payout if he's sacked and to be honest, if he were to leave, he wouldn't get a job as big as the Liverpool gig so there's no incentive.
First point is difficult. We all think we would walk away, but this is managing the team you love.. would you really walk away knowing you're 99% sure to never get the chance to manage them again? Or would you stay and try and do everything possible in your power to improve things...
I know mate, but I would see it as I'm doing more harm than good which is why I would walk. Personally, I think Rodgers is clinging onto the payout and knowing that he won't get a bigger job, else he would have walked.
I think until you're in that position you wouldn't know for sure though... I agree I'd like to think I'd realise I was doing more harm than good and walk but you'd then always have that regret of what if.... what if I stayed and we won a few games etc.. A bit harsh on Rodgers, I think he knows he's unlikely t least in the next 5 years or so to get a bigger job than LFC so is doing everything he can to stay in the job not to then get a payout but to stay as manager of one of the biggest clubs in the world.
Honestly, no. He's entitled to a £9m payout. And which club bigger than Liverpool will give him a chance? ..
I disagree. Besides Portugal he's always had unlimited resources. He buys obvious talent... Players that have already peaked or a 12 year old could pick out as a star. He has no eye for future talent. He always ends up pissing off everyone at the club and leaves the club in a mess when all his star players pass their peak and he hasn't brought in any young improving players for the next manager to inherit so they have to spend like crazy again. If you've got a lot of money and an already strong club, Mourinho is great as a short term solution. Long term he messes clubs up. I wouldn't want Mourinho.
Not saying I would want him either. But the man has won titles at every club he's been at as well as CL's. The man is a proven winner and in demand, which is why he can command such a high salary.
