I would also add to that, that you can have a great lifestyle, foreign travel, nice clothes, good food etc without having to spend a fortune. I’ve travelled extensively on a budget. Used to camp and do youth hostels etc, now I’ve got a family we do house swaps, usually swap cars too so that’s transport sorted too. Clothes, I’m wearing a pair of £300 PRPS jeans right now and a pair of £140 air max 90 kicks. Jeans were £30 off eBay, kicks were £25 off eBay. Food, I live by the ocean and know a few fishermen, so I can get Monk, Cod, Turbot, Dover Sole etc for pennies. My business also takes me in foodie circles so I know a lot of local food producers and can get top quality produce. I still grow a bit of veg too. So it’s all quality stuff without spending stupid Waitrose or high end deli prices.
I'm envious of some of that, not the Oxfam clothes but the food for sure. I can't cook much nor can my Mrs so we pay others to make us what is usually just average food in all honesty. Travel I'd never compromise on, I don't wanna sleep on a piss stained mattress and I want my room service to be brought to me by somebody who doesn't look like they've been part of some HIV experiment.
I hear you. Although the clothes are designer gear that some people try on once or twice and then just sell on. And the travel, although without hotel room service etc is usually really high quality private houses, often owned by people with several homes. I stayed in one in San Francisco once that was ****ing amazing, had it's own indoor pool and sauna room and even had a housekeeper/maid who came in and cleaned. Didn't cost me a penny. And I got to use their Chevy Pick up Also I like staying in the local neighbourhood, with local shops, bars etc, as opposed to touristville, where you basically just get ripped off everytime you need to spend money.
This is what I found when I was working full time on a decent salary. You basically pay other people to do stuff that you could do yourself. Eating out etc, but also paying people to come and fix a leaky tap, broken window, tiling, decorating, roofing etc. I've practically done everything on my house myself, and learned loads of good skills in the process. Time rich/cash poor or cash rich/time poor equation. Having had both, and now especially that I've got a daughter, I have to say I prefer the former.
