Oh aye Cest, I agree that it will be the SDA, not to me but technically yes. What I found amusing is Syd's constant superiority complex that he doesn't car eabout NUFC, has zero interest in them and thinks of them exactly the same as any other club. Then a quick look down to his signature and you see a Newcastle United emblem, hypocrite
I think we should call it the Sports Arena Direct simply because it is home to the saddest twats in football...
That's just complete rubbish. There's nothing illegal or fraudulent in anyone calling the stadium anything unless its defamatory, which it isn't. Newcastle council have already said they aren't changing any signs or the metro station signs with st James park on them.
Is this the first time an existing stadium has had its name changed. If so I applaud Ashley for his brass neck and wish him every success in his mission of humiliating the mags as much as possible. Now all they have to do is stop winning so many ****ing games and the world will have found balance again. Will sound very strange the first time Pardew has to say it, he must be cringing inside when he does.
Maybe Sky wil call it the STD or SDA or whatever they want. But for me is still SJP. In memory of the carry on legend.
Errr I think youl find that the Newcastle City Council DO own the land that the Sports Direct Arena sits on...and have done for a number of years, infact in the late 1970's..the stadium was very close to being sold off for Local Authority Housing..get yer facts right Chap arse
I think you will find that the media, both written and live broadcast will have to call it the Sports Direct Stadium to comply with broadcasting rights and legalities. If Agent Ashley registers that as the legal name, all official correspondence and such like will have to show the legal name. If the BBC or SKY keep calling it Sid James they could be in legal hot water. In fact, it would actually break common law to conduct business with a company or person that is not their correct and legal title. Thats called fraud chum and any agreement or contract made in Sid James name will have no legal bearing whatsoever.Thats why EVERYONE will have to call it by the poxy but funny as **** name fatso malatso has deemed it to be now. Either that or ASDA
Sorry but you are entirely wrong. Opinions are one thing but facts quite another. A quick check to quote the FA. The Regulations clearly state âEach participating broadcaster must correctly identify the official stadium name in its broadcasts, official publications and promotional material.â âThe F.A. in taking any and all legal and other measures, in its sole discretion, deems appropriate at its sole discretion to prohibit, prevent and stop any unauthorised exploitation of the commercial rights to the completion and to ensure that all commercial rights are protected.â
And where exactly is that 'illegal' or 'fraudulent'? I don't doubt that official broadcasters must adhere to the rules, but anyone else can do whatever the hell they like. Nothing 'illegal' or 'fraudulent' ever comes into it. The notion that the "rest of the footballing world" are legally enlisted to call it the Sports Direct Arena is a load of nonsense.
Chap. It could be well challenged in a court of law should the groundâs name be changed & it there after not be referred to by it in all printed or spoken, commercial form. Should it not be referred to by its official name in the media, whichever medium that may be, then I think youâll find all "Media Accreditation" would be removed for that organisation by the FA. The implication of that not happening would be huge with the fallout bound to impact on other sports so Iâm sure youâll find that they wonât let that occur. As for the signage giving directions, Iâd give you short odds that all signage will be changed once the emotion dies away. Iâll let you be the judge as to whether or not litigation would be contemplated by the current owner should it not occur thus under mining his vast investment. The Law is the Law & the owners will use it to the fullest to make as much money as possible regardless of what you think or say. The opinions of a few on an internet forum Iâm afraid holds little in a court of law. At the end of the day I understand itâll ALWAYS be St James Park to you & so it should.
We can talk about legalities all we like, but, at the end of the day, this is all about tradition and respect, isn't it? I mean, we can feel what we like about each other's club, but anyone who can't respect the records of Sunderland and Newcastle doesn't know much about football. Agent Fat Mike had a little dig in my ribs, saying 'You know a lot about the filth' (which I take in good humour, Agent) but it's not just a local thing. I have immense respect for e.g. Bury - FA Cup winners in 1900 and 1904(?), the first club to win it twice in the 20th century, and, to this day, Gigg Lane is respected as one of the very finest playing surfaces in all England. A beautiful pitch. Preston North End might be a third tier club now - but they wear the greatest club badge in the world. It says 'INVINCIBLE' - better than Arsenal's gun, Sunderland's ship (now sadly departed) etc. because Preston won their badge on the pitch. Pie Dodger is right - kids will call St. James' the Sports Direct Arena because they'll be brainwashed into it by the media. But it won't die that easily - young bucks still go into a pub and ask for 'a pint' even though they've never been actually sold a pint in their lifetime! You can't just erase the Gallaghers and the Milburns from footballing folklore with a simple bit of legal pulp. They won't go away in a hurry, like it or not, and neither, I think, will St. James' Park. I've been Sunderland through and through for 63 years, but no club is bigger than football itself. To ignore the fine traditions of Newcastle United would be ignorance of the very worst kind.
How come Chappedarse and Cheik the Homo, those closet Mackem's, keep starting polls on the SAFC board without the add-on to the poll to tell them they're obsessed ****ers? The poll itself is null and void, as the real name SID JAMES PARK isn't an option.
Also, although Chaps was asking what we (SAFC fans) were calling it: 12 of the votes for St James' were from Skunk fans..
