1975 Main road, visiting my Aunty and my uncle a city fan had a ticket for the game and my Dad talked him into giving it me and he had to go stand in the Kippax while I got his seat,1-0 win for Leeds,Paul Madeley I think.
29th January 1983. Fa Cup 4th round. Arsenal 1-1 Leeds United. Living in North London at the time and all the kids at school were either Spurs or Arsenal. Just happened that my mates were Spurs and all the kids we didn't get on with were Arsenal. We'd just been relegated the previous season and Arsenal had given us a fair few spankings in the couple of years prior to this (7-0 in the league cup and 5-0 at home in the league spring to mind), and being the only Leeds fan in school I got regular stick from the Arsenal lot. So when we took the lead in this game I thought all my Christmases had come at once. That joy lasted about 60 seconds if I recall, before the Arse equalised.
what happened for replay or was it penalties to decide who was going through ? did leeds win and go through ?
i remember man city fans getting into the kop at elland road and getting hot tea thrown over them they soon shifted out of there ha ha
I once had 2 scum fans sat in front of me in the Kop,they never made a sound, that's why I knew, spent the whole game shouting come on Leeds and scum in their ears, while they just sat there shaking their heads.lol
In those days the fixture was replayed as many times as needed to get a result. The replay at Elland Road also finished 1-1. I remember being allowed to stay up late to watch the highlights on the tv. We got a goal scored by Aiden Butterworth in virtually the last minute I think. I distinctly remember the commentator shouting “And Butterworth........... has won the tie for Leeds !!!!!!!”. Only for Arsenal to score immediately after the restart with probably the last kick of the game. A second replay at Highbury finished 2-1 to Arsenal and we were out.
Beating city twice in one season. That’s a fact some of our younger fans would think unbelievable in this era
I was at the second replay, Leeds had the clock end and the snow was coming right at us. Fooking freezing and gutted to lose that one but great battling performances by Leeds in all three games.
