Played just behind the strikers or right winger and would chip in with a fair few goals, I was pretty quick and had a few skills but so injury prone I was always down Southampton general having some sort of scan done, meaning I never was fit for a whole season! Played for Winsor and Testwood in my youth days in the tyro league before being scouted having spells at Saints, B'mouth and Yeovil Academys. But like I said injuries always were my down fall which never allowed me to "make it". In the end I just had to stop as I just couldn't keep my fitness up to play at those levels anymore. Had all gone smoothly I think I would be playing somewhere in the football league now.

Hi guys I know I'm late ITT but I thought OP's post was interesting.

I would say Scott Parker epitomizes the type of player I would be if I were a pro. Although I can play any position even Gk but my height (5'8) really means I'd never play CB or GK and never did in a match.

I've had a fight with an opponent to the point you'd only get a yellow. I've never been sent off. I would never dive and hack a player on purpose unless it was a revenge challenge.

I've never played high standard really. It was never my primary sport so I had to call it a day playing wise early to focus on strength training. I scored a goal from ~50 yards once (half way between edge of centre circle and kick off point), GK was on about the penalty spot when I connected. My best game was one game I had 3-4 clearances off the line including a bicycle kick clearance right on the line lol (playing cdm). Other point of note I played in a game where my team conceded a 40 yard shot in less than 10 seconds, we ended up winning 3 or 4 -1 I can't remember exactly.

dont know if its just me, but myself and a few team mates used to have problems with twisted ankles, mainly when uneven or rutted pitches froze during the winter. this was 20 odd years ago so i hope the pitches are in better nick now

The most famous players I have played with and against is Big Ron Davis, Terry Paine Stan Mathews and Tom Finney. Also a very young Duncan Edwards any one remember him? Most as a school boy although Stan Mathews and Tom Finney were charity matches. My first ever goal in a proper football match I knew little about. The ball came over from the left hit Terry Paine on the back side hit me in the face and went smartly into the corner of the net. Terry was my opponent on this day. I played on either wing and in mid field. My preferred position was right back. The most famous ground I have played at is the Dell or Fratton park. Although I have played at a hand full of not so famous professional grounds.

    Blimey Beddy, you were good!

I was rubbish at football, at my school rugby was the thing, but I was equally bad at that and my cricket wasn't much better, which I wish I could have been good at.

I represented the school once or twice, at basketball, being somewhat tall.

Was a reasonable striker playing of the centre forward making the diagonal runs in the channels and quick over 15 yards around box. Played at good amateur level and had good goal ratio. Thought I was Mike Channon without his naff goal celebration lol

Nah not really mate just being in the right place at the right time........I was a bit of an all rounder really....Pompey tried to sign me before I went into the forces Saints offered to buy me out while I was in. I used to live opposite Peter Sainsbury as a boy who taught me to spin a ball then Hampshire colts took an interest when I was reccomended by our sports master Who had something to do with the colts I think anyway. While in the Navy I played in a couple of combined sports teams against Hampshire and sussex and I think it was Kent until I got injured in Aden which finished my bowling career. My batting wasn't too bad either I used to open for the school went in at 3 or 4 for the combined later on. Must admit to having a liking more for cricket than football then took up Hockey after my injury healed enough. Managed to play for Hampshire only (by default I might add) but never mind. so I guess you could call me a bit of an all rounder. Now it is golf and believe me I am crap at it <laugh>
