I was a midfield player in the style of well Chappers i suppose i had good stamina used to enjoy a tackle and did score a few goals in my time .My time was late seventies and through the eighties so tackling was allowed as were short shorts and Greame Souness taches.Payed local Football Aldershot senior league and eventually old Hampshire League never got to grace such prestigious stadiums as Carrow Road or Sms but played in cup finals at nice but less auspicious venues such as Aldershot Town good playing surface to and then Conferance clubs Woking and Farnboro Town.Did have the fortune to play against the 76 cup final legends Bobby Stokes and David Peach who were playing for Petersfield Town and if my memory serves me well Hamworthy respectivly both by then playing for pleasure locally after their retirements. Also played against Guy Whittingham who at the time was in the army in my locallity he played for Seme who we played in a a friendly Maik Taylor also played Sunday football in our area when at the time still in the army. The amatuer ranks of football in that era did seem to thrive i think there were far lesschoice in the sports and leisure field it was fooball winter cricket summer. I myself had to stop playing after tearing knee ligaments and as a self employed builder it was no work no money
Yeaaaah buddy! I remember I used to walk with them to school as I went on to college. I always thought she had something special.
played mainly right back had a fight with an opponent? nearly, i was abit gobby - been sent off? no - intentionally dived? no - scored a Worldy of a goal? keeper goal kick, i was on the half-way line, the ball came to me without bouncing and i vollyed it backpast the keeper. 100%luck. I scored 3 goals in 5 years - played against anyone famous? - have any dirty tactics to put off the oppo? when playing centerback, i would run alongside the striker with the ball, and tread on his heel, while he was off balance my partner who was bigger than me would clobber the guy legaly, but as he was off balance the forward would go flying. if we could do this in the first 10 minutes then that forward would be quiet as a baby for the rest of the match - ever played at any professional stadiums? the dell - ever played with or against a past or present saints player? played at the dell with David Armstrong. Played against saints youth with Ray and Rod Wallace and with Francis Benali- who was a striker at the time. Did the dirty trick with rod wallace and he went off with a twisted ankle- boy was he fast though
I use to play in goal until a few years ago I started to play as a nippy winger. I never dived(only when I was in goal) or cheated,I've made tackles like Fox's one, from last night. I've played at Farense's stadium, doubt any of you have heard of it. I've scored some good goals aswell .
Haha! To Chaplows Shiny Head! I had the short shorts in the late eighties! I had to wear cycling shorts underneath to save my dignity. My dad was my manager as a kid and he had a class souness tache!
A lanky centre forward (as my name suggests) - had a fight with an opponent? We seem to get at least one scrap every game in the league I currently play in. I find it all a bit pathetic so never get involved - I usually just walk off and get some water while the other 21 players give it large. - been sent off? Nope. Can't remember ever being booked either - intentionally dived? I have been known to make the most of (minimal) contact on occasion. Never fallen over with no contact whatsoever though - scored a Worldy of a goal? A few stick in the mind - my favourite probably being a corner which I curled straight in, Le Tiss style. Took it with my left too for some reason even though I'm right-footed. Also scored from my own half once (keeper was off his line and ball sat up very invitingly - so just volleyed it straight over his head) - played against anyone famous? Not that I know of, doubt it - have any dirty tactics to put off the oppo? Sometimes stand right in the keeper's face at corners, and used to stand right on the touchline to put off opposition players trying to take throws. I'm quite a clean player generally - ever played at any professional stadiums? Nope. Never played at a good enough level - ever played with or against a past or present saints player? I wish
Determined cm turned cb, good passer and a bullet shot. Recently involved in a 10man brawl on sat morning after a mouthy oppo player started on our keeper and he flopped him in one punch! I laughed looked away and then turned back to see the inevitable red card however saw 5 of their players on him and had to back him. Club fine and keeper is banned for the season . Once scored an overhead kick in the first couple of seasons of 11-a-side football. Played against a few of the current U18 players and have played with a few U16's. Played at SMS and at Ajax. Ajax was unbelievable played against their academy when I got invited to a tournament trail in holland for the blue few. Got sent off when I was 13 for telling a ref to **** off when he gave a penalty for a dive in the semi of the cup!
Started out as a striker, banged in ridiculous amounts of goals. I was also a county sprinter which helped a lot, literally no one could catch me on the pitch. Got an injury and lost a bit of pace so changed my playing style dropping off more and picking up more assists, sometimes dropped back into midfield. Also played a few games at CB, even though i'm only 5'9/10 i've yet to come up against anyone that can out jump me. Been sent off several times, some of them deserved, others questionable. never ever dived. Scored several 'worldies', however i'd put it down to ability than being a 'worldy'. played against and with several current pro's First corner we used to smash the opposition goalkeeper, and I mean smash. Two biggest players would go up purely with the intention of flattening him and not bothering about the ball. Keeper wouldn't come for another cross all game... Also resulted in two keepers breaking their arms and having to be subbed in the first 10. several stadiums although most of them are in the lower leagues. Never played with any of the current 11 but players that have moved on.
What standard did you play at Joey ?because it sounds like you were a hell of a player! What current player would you liken yourself too? I had a similar twist of fate, always played striker / winger roles. Used to skip past people for fun with pace but a few injuries and a year out of football battered my fitness so I now kind of play a Scholes type role.
I played for my school team in primary school, I was a left back. We were pretty good, we won some trophies! But I was nothing special - we all mainly got in the team by being the 9 girls in the school who actually wanted to play football...
