He also said that England invented slavery, despite the practice pre-dating recorded history, RWAEB. The Serbian FA have also backed this clip: I have to agree with you about the Serbian reaction since the game. It's bizarre.
Serbs have a remarkable amount of gumption when it comes to ducking responsibility. The Serbian FA had a similar response to the crowd trouble in Genoa, whilst Slobodan Milosevic and Radovan Karadzic both demonstrated a lot of it in their respective war crimes trials - although I should add that it isn't unique to Serbs, as Russians demonstrate the exact same trait.
There is a simple solution to all footballs problems - tough governance. The only problem is that the governing bodies do not provide it. One of my "pet hates" is to see a referee award a penalty and then to see him have 5 players screaming in his face. All that has got to happen is that when he awards a penalty he stands there with a red card in his hand. Anyone, other than the captain, who comes to question the decision, gets it. Problem solved. Back to the Serbia issue, UEFA will do **** all. Why? Because there are people on the Serbian FA who vote the UEFA guys in for the next couple of years. There are too many vested interests which means footballs problems remain unresolved for years.
I'm still stunned that this goes on, once the ref makes his decision (right or wrong), get on with it, and as you point out, card anyone who questions it. It works well in rugby union, guys twice the size of the ref obeying his decisions wether they like it or not, or else they're off, and a possible retrospective ban to follow. As for the Serbs? Swing the ban hammer, irrespective of the country's mindset. A ban will make them sit up and take notice to the fact that we're well into the 21st century and that sh!t doesn't fly anymore.
