Looks nice but would have been tempted to bone it out and cook it in foil for yonks with shed loads of garlic rosemary and black olives.
Just made some bubble an squeak. It didn’t squeak whilst cooking it. Assume that’ll be my arse later. Had left over sprouts, red cabbage, roast potatoes and parsnips, tenderstem broccoli, stuffing lobbed in. Mashed it and added to some bacon lardons and onion, fried the lot together and had it with left over goose and gravy. hardly a culinary delight, as have never eaten it before.
You don't have gravy with bubble and squeak, and if it didn't squeak it ain't proper bubble, just some weird hoyed concoction you knocked together!
Can’t eat pickled things. Had cold goose. Then smothered it all in hot gravy. Cant decide what to have for tea tonight. Options are moule frites. Or baked Camembert .
What you made by adding bacon sounds more like a skillet, rather than bubble and squeak, neither come with gravy. The Americans make pretty decent skillets.
I made bubble & squeak the other day. All the Christmas Day leftovers, roasties, sprouts, carrots, parsnips & a couple of sausages. All sliced, mashed, salt, pepper and a splash of Worcester bound with an egg, then lightly fried. Put it all in a baking dish, topped with some cheese and finished off in the oven. Was boss.
Always use to love a skillet breakfast in the morning out in the States, down a place called the Whale Harbour (not the seafood place, the seafront cafe under the upper floor bar). It would be a family run business, so proper homemade stuff. From memory was more potato, chopped meat such as sausage, bell peppers, mushrooms, onion. And would come on a hot plate, with eggs on top if desired. Might not be there after the last hurricane wrecked the gaff. Otherwise there was another family place a few miles down the road, again family owned, always packed out, serving Americans all day breakfast and proper mugs of coffee. Aside from that might frequent the less attractive Denny's.
