Butterfly chicken with some kind of sauce which was a bit south American and a bit Indian, basic stuff but it was okay. Pint of Brixton Pale Ale to wash it down which was surprisingly good.
Long weekend in Rioja 5th-8th July. Stayed in Logrono (new capital of Rioja) and Haro (Old capital). 3 wine tastings at different vineyards, and a load of amazing food. Was very, very cheap. Almost no Brits. Best little mini break I've been on. Highly recommended. Too many photos to share, but mushrooms, wood fired lamb and beef cheeks were my top 3.
Was brilliant mate. Fantastic trip. First spot we went into was a in little olde worlde village calle Laguardia on our way to Logrono. Beautiful spot... been travelling a while and thought we'd have a glass of wine and a snack. 12 glasses of wine, 6 pinxtos (said pinchos) which are like, a croquette, or a slice of omelette... a stuffed pepper etc... 2 bottles of water. It was 21.80 Euro. I thought she'd added it up wrong, but it was bang on. Insanely cheap.
Went to Haro last year, it's absolutely superb. Tried to book into Logrones next week, but they wouldn't take a booking for just two nights, so have instead booked into Navarrete, which is just down the road. Same type of thing, in the middle of Rioja with bodegas and tapas a plenty. Looking forward to it, will nip into the town next Thursday and Friday night's. Can't see us getting into Logrones though. Might yet have a one night stop in Haro on the way home, if only to stock up heavily on wine.
Haro was great, but we found Logrono to be a little more friendly (Haro wasn't hostile per se, but there were a couple of minor incidents!) and it's a lot busier, with a much wider array of little specialist tapas places in 2 distinct "tapas streets". You're probably aware, having been in the area before. Bodegas we did were Marques de Riscal, Ontanon and Gomez Cruzado (Haro). All amazing in their own way. We only did 2 nights in Logrono - Stayed here - bang central and not too steep a price. Recommended. https://www.booking.com/Share-bFUURbB
We'd have been in the campsite on the other side of the river, we're in the van heading south. Wish I'd persevered now as there is very little in Navarrete by comparison and you're not the first person to say Logrones is worth a visit. There's a pool with slides at Navarrete though, at least keep the kids occupied while I have a cold beer in the bar. Taps and wine isn't their thing unfortunately.
I'm somewhat conflicted.... I like a lot of what's there, just not on the same plate... I don't think...
Just looking at ferries over, thought of doing that area, done the northern coast which was great but wanted to go furthur down this time. Portsmouth-Santander, £1950 return, not including a cabin. Looks like France again.
Jesus Christ!!!! Didn't spend that much on the whole trip for 2 of us, including flights, hotel, car hire, and spends.
