Poll time! Instead of having Champions as an option I've included win a trophy as that is a tad more realistic! Given our form post lockdown it will be interesting to see what people's views are. It's not what you hope for next season but what we should aim for.
I have gone for a tad conservative, top half finish. I do believe this group of players are good enough to push on, But with a single injury to Ings or JWP.. We could struggle a little. I do think we will have a successful season and St Marys will become a fortress again.
Finishing 11th again would be acceptable, without a 9-0 defeat ideally, if we could mount a serious challenge for one of the cups. We'd need luck, of course, but I'd fancy Ralph to set up a team to beat anyone as a one-off* Anything higher in the table is going to require some serious investment. Our 'starting 11' is very good. But a couple of injuries and our lack of depth shows. This is always going to be a problem. How do you persuade a player who could slot in for, say ,Ward-Prowse to sit on our bench? Hopefully the academy will continue to produce. * And before anyone asks I do mean anyone. The 4-0 at Anfield was one of our most bizarre results this year. It all hinged on two bad decisions which then opened the floodgates. Sure, Liverpool were awesome once they went 1-0 up, but there was a different result in that game on another day.
I'm really hopeful for next season, and think top half realistic on current form obviously. Something feels right at the moment, the players know and the manger knows it. I haven't got stupid expectations, but think we are capable of something exciting, whether this is a cup or higher league position than we expect who knows.
The points total we ended on this season is normally enough for a top half finish! So we should be aiming for top half at a minimum I would think. Aim for Europa and see how we do. A lot will depend on our transfer business and also injuries. If we lost any of our key players to injury this season we would have really struggled, we just don't have the strength in depth. I've got a good feeling about the cups next season. So I'm going to say finish on more points than this season and win a cup!
I wanted to go for Europa Cup qualification and Win a Trophy, but settled for the trophy, because if we go with a full strength team, we have a decent chance, and it’s the fewest games.
Sort the defence out, Salisu and KWP would be good, with maybe a couple more players to increase the depth and I think we will finish at least as high as we have this season. Stop the soft goals and play like we have recently at SMS and we could have a very exciting season as I think there are goals in our team. A cup run would be great.
Same as every club not in the top 6 or 8, avoid relegation. Then, depending how early that has been achieved, push on from there
Agreed, we are in a great place as a club now. If everyone keeps working as hard as they have since lockdown, who knows what heights we can hit. First of all Ralph needs to make sure we can keep some of this form into next season. We were very unlucky to lose to spurs in the cup. If we add a couple of players and hold onto our star men, really anything is possible with a bit of luck, and this amount of quality in the side.
Targets should always be as ambitious as possible, whilst still being realistically achievable - that's why I think Europa League has to be the aim. A top half finish would be a good season for sure, but the fact is that with a couple of good additions I can definitely see Ralph at least challenging for that 7th spot.
Think we have to aim high and say Europa League. Top Half would be solid progress, but I don’t think we can take our time in building towards something, as things change too quickly and we can lose the core of a good team overnight. We could easily lose JWP, Hasenhuttl and maybe Ings after next season if they continue at the current rate. Point being we need to strike while the iron is hot.
