I agree. Would show ambition and make people sit up and take notice. We are complete unknowns to the more insular people in the football world. Show them we are not a little team anymore. There are no signs that NC/NA are interested solely in experience. A young player with a couple of PL seasons might attract them, but they are primarily going for players that fit. No room for egos in this team.
Well, a few seasons out of the top flight has probably flattered our current lot, but they look much better in many respects. A couple more quality additions and I'd say definitely stronger.
Although i am unsure on his current fitness,a player i have always liked, who i think could do a good job for us is Stuart Holden of Bolton. Has had some bad injuries recently, but when he was fit looked a real handful. Tom Ince or Matt Philips would be good signings, especially if we can unload Puncheon in return.
I think that Chris Burke of Brum could do a good job for us in the Premier League. His stats for goals and assists for last season were impressive and he is still only 28. Everyone seems to be picking the carcass of Brum since the departure of Hughton and surely Burke would jump at a shot at the Premiership.
I rarely know who is being talked about, because I pay little attention to any other team unless it affects Saints e.g. Rangers going out of business...who will we play in the Memorial Cup.
I think Steven Davis who is Ranger captain and could be available at £1.6m is an excellent option to provide Cork & Morgan with competition. In fact I'd partner him with Morgan. Curtis Davies is another, and Tom Ince (though if Matt Jarvis is interested that would be great, though suspect he'll go to Liverpool). Agree with Jack Butland also, though depends if we can persuade him he'd get a good amount of games next year. Not sure he'd replace Kelvin yet, though would certainly be excellent competition!
