Not very original! How about a dodgy Republic? = http://www.marca.com/2014/01/22/en/football/spanish_football/1390382722.html
I might be totally misreading things.... But in the Guardian article Kreuger did last week, he said that the club wasn't looking to panic over the financial black hole and I think with his marketing back ground-a move towards stripes may be a money spinner to partially fill some of the sterling abyss. I don't think it's about stripes, sashes, quarters or anything like that. Our home colours are red, white and black. Rightly or wrongly, Cortese saw a financial opportunity to move away from stripes. The sash, the pinstripes, the red/gold with wings were always combinations of something different rather than the same old stripes, whereas there seems to be a slight leaning from some towards stripes again. From the literature that's come out since the new board, there are an abundance of stripes and I wouldn't be at all surprised if that's the way we went-but with a spin on it as well. Compared to the relative indifference of the red and white wings or the pinstripes, a modern spin on the air Florida kit would be a draw to a lot of people. Granted.... Not everyone wound go for it.... But it seems to be the best way of thinking that our identity is red and white.
Yes, I have seen them mange it at Twickers, had a nasty incident with drunk Welshman, he fell off the terrace and I happened to be the one that saved him from breaking his dozy neck. I detest the bunch that start to wander out of their seats five to ten minutes before half time just so that they can beat the queue for some unpalatable alchohol.
What about the Athletico strip? Didn't like the white patch on back, but that could be a Champions' League thing. I prefer mostly red, but I think (with all their talk of heritage) that the new board will opt for stripes.
Tend to agree though the sash is the true 'traditional' kit, followed by quarters and halves before stripes. And black shorts replaced the blue as late as 1950. I voted as a don't care. Actually I do care but in truth all of the designs could look really smart or really carp. What I want more than anything else is a kit that you don't see half a dozen sunday league sides wearing which is why for the first time in a long time, I did not buy this years shirt.
I'm not too fussed as long as we don't do the opposite to Cardiff. It would be very controversial if we went from red to blue!
Heresy! Burn him! Burn the Witch! Sorry, er... I don't really care as long as we don't look like some League 2 outfit.....
I have to admit, even for a Pompey fan, it seems odd not seeing the red and white stripes, when I watch Southampton on TV these days it makes it harder to get into the old rivalry bit. What I can't understand is why a team would change the outfit to such a degree, that sales would start to drop significantly as a result. Every club has had kits they'd rather forget, I didn't like the all blue one Pompey had, the shirt fine but blue shorts and socks, no way! Older fans will remember the awful 70's white shirt with two blue stripes on it too. For me the worst Southampton kit was that stripy one that had the chevron at the top.
Hated it at the time, but I always remember it fondly. Those were the days of Le Tissier winning GOTM everytime, and I'm sure we beat Man U at least once.
