What is the point of us having an Academy…?

I have been to most U21 games this season and Max Clarke isn't good enough, he just hasn't moved on after looking a good prospect. It could be that he is having a dip in performance and will push on again, but this season hasn't done enough. Matty Dixon could step up as can Greg Luer and I like Olley, but I do agree that I would like to see them get game time in the cup games.

Good post and words, but only a worthwhile opinion if you have the stubs to back it up, apparently.

I think he's more than a grafter, his movement and link up play against Leciester was good. He didn't look so sharp yesterday, but I do think there's a player there. Granted he will never skin 3 players but you need to play to his strengths. People wanted us to sign Blackman but it would of been pointless as we wouldn't know how to use him.

All pretty much what Brom thought of Oxford' s Roofe - there is no substitute for game time and confidence. Training grounds are fine, but they are training grounds.

Mind you, it would appear it is wrong of all of us - pundits, managers, viewers - to dare offer an opinion, when we have not actually attended the games and have got stubs to prove it.

Maybe they just aren't that good? These kids don't turn into first team players overnight just because the word "academy" has been put in the title instead of youth team!

Could well be, but Brucey isn't renowned for giving kids a chance. One thing is for sure, with Tony Pennock at the helm, and recent investment we are certainly heading in the right direction if its ever going to work. My lad's been at a couple of academies, one being Crewe which has a great reputation, but for that I'm sure Crewe would have gone down the tubes years ago

On a day when multiple clubs will be giving youth a chance and we're talking 17 year olds here, Hull City had the chance to do the same. Recognition for the hours put in, experience and an opportunity to play at the KC and to show the manager who perhaps hasn't even seen them that they are worth a second look….. BUT oh no!!!!…. The only one to get near the game is/was Greg Luer and guess what, h';s sat on his arse. We've seen interest from Everton thats Everton Steve Bruce in one of the academy players, but does he get even a glimpse of the team sheet no!!!!!… This cup competition should mean nothing to us this season and should have been an opportunity to blood young talent.

It strikes me, that the only thing Bruce recognises because he cannot address his own inadequacies is a pint of lager and a pork pie…

An interesting view but one I don't share.

What is wrong in England and English football in general is the death of the proper reserve leagues. Clubs used the reserves in years gone by to play out of sorts players - players coming back from injury and the best of the youth. This is what is wrong. The U21 leagues are a joke and don't work. Boys need to play alongside and against grown men as it used to be. (Nothing to do with sex for those with warped/sick minds ).

Bring back the proper reserve leagues and help the youth. That way you can soon see who will or wont make it. It used to work actually.

You are correct in ^^^^ this. From what I have seen so far both Matty Dixon and Max Clark should have been on the bench.

If the score had been 3/4 - 0 to City like it should have been then the option to give both a go would have been available.

Sadly neither happened.
