Great added incentive to win the Europa League as essentially that now takes us where we need to be competing, yet winning the competition means we need a big squad, or a superb first team which never gets injured, we have neither so sorry to be negative yet I don't see us having much chance of winning the europa league unless we improve the squad.

We have missed out on the CL via the league by the skin of our teeth in recent years so logically I'll say thats our best bet, although having Zeki Fryers in defence may cause us a problem ;)

It's for 2015. I hope in 2014 we are not in it!

 Barney, we often disappoint it's true, but I'd rather keep my expectations on the lower side, to have more chance of less disappointment.

I started supporting Spurs when we were the glamour team of England in the early 60s, those days I expected us to finish top 4, not that people thought like that then. In many ways the FA Cup was bigger than the league title, certainly you'd far rather win the FA Cup and finish 5th than finish 2nd and win nowt.

With regards to football you were Spurm  I actually saw the great man Greaves at the Lane.

Not just that I saw him score some of his wonder goals, including the one as part of our 5-1 thrashing of Utd, Best Charlton Law and all, in front of 60,000 people. Great days (the official attendance was 58,000+, but in those days full houses always meant a lot more in the ground than those that clicked the turnstile gates

Not only that, perhaps best of all I stood with some of my friends who were supporting Utd, and there was not the slightest danger of it 'kicking off'. Those were the last few years where oppo supporters could stand together and have banter but not violence, just five short years later that had gone from the English game, perhaps forever.

Thankfully these days the hooligans have gone, but it's unlikely Utd and Spurs fans, for example, can sit together still, be it at OT or the Lane and support their respective teams, even in a 'moderate way' without trouble at 'ground.

Hello James, I see where you're coming from in that lowering the expectations means anything beyond your "low" expectations is a bonus and worthy of you "jizzing your pants":1980_boogie_down:

Despite being a whipper-snapper (well, compared to you:emoticon-0111-blush) I also recall the days when the FA Cup had much more excitement and was a worthy Cup to win. I still remember shedding tears for the only time during a football match when watching Coventry beat Spurs back in '87. I would love Spurs to win the FA Cup, but unfortunately in this day and age, it is not enough of an incentive to attract new and exciting players. We both know, although probably don't agree with it, it's seems to be primarily about playing CL football. But then for Arsenal supporters, who experience regular CL's football, complain their trophy cabinet is a little dusty.:emoticon-0136-giggl

    The grass is always greener...

Claiming ownership of Lana Del Rey will certainly qualify as success this year.

For me the whole point of getting rid of Redknapp and getting AVB was to develop us into a team that could compete in the CL. We have gone without trophies for years and I can bear another year or two if the reward is becoming one of the top two or three clubs in England. Once we get there we can turn our hopes to trophies but we need CL to attract and keep the top players. Yes I hope we win the FA Cup - not that it is worth anything like it was back in the 60s - sorry giving away my age a little there. The League Cup - don't go to Wikipaedia but tell me the team that won it the season before last and the season before that. Nice when you win it but does not stay in the memory. Great for Swansea but we are Spurs and my ambition is to see us ranked back with Man U - an impossible dream? - yes if we don't get into CL.

    So did I

It's ridiculous to think that because we've had so many great forwards, I actually can't get Gary in my 'all-time Spurs XI' though he was a wonderful player. I have to have Greaves in, though in ways Lineker was the better all-round striker, and I have to have Klinsmann in, because as an all-round striker he was better than Greaves or Lineker IMO.
