I'm glad to see some guys on here note more than just a fee and his age.

What i'd say here comes in 3 points.

    1. the guy is 20, he's basically thrown in there at the deep end. you can't be make the claims some guys are on here about he'll never be able to shoot or head or tackle, that IMO is just not possible to take seriously. He is in there cos everyoen else is terrible ADAM is bloody awful, kuyt was terrible for most of the yea, comes on as a sub in the fa cup 4th round and is a hero.. maxi is nonexistant, it seems the guy in the team get critised despite doing his best while those not deserving a place or not able to make the field as super heros that if only they played.

    2. we only will pay 20mil... by the time this guy is 24 i think personally 20mil is going to just be a normal fee. if we'd paid 500k and he was named sterling again people would be clamouring for him cos he'd be trotting round in the reserves looking world class compared to that level. he's in the first team doing his best. By the time this guy is 24 everyone on here will be saying that they defended him to the hilt and everyone else was wrong. he will improve again and again as he gain expereince.

    3. I'd not be playing him constantly, i'd not want him on the wing but kenny does cos options are limited. he'd probably benefit from less game time but hey... shelvey aint drawing the critics yet if you get stuck in there you have to take it and henderson takes it and keeps coming back for more.

If you've ever played football to a decent standard then you'll see why he is rated. Finds space, consistently gets in dangerous positions, is skillful, and plays the game in the 'right' way. He always gives the ball quickly and it is often when he doesn't have the pace to fly down the wing that he finds himself unsure of what to do. He is clearly lacking confidence, which is impacting on his end product and therefore what he is judged on by those who watch the highlights (opposition fans), but if you watch him for the u21s- where he is captain and has some seniority- then you see a bit more of his ability combined with that confidence.

This video shows why many are critical (clearly there is sense behind this even if i disagree as he makes mistakes):

But also note how many times he makes key contributions to our best attacking moves (including 2 of the goals), creates key chances and gives the ball first time. Many complain we aren't blooding youngsters, but i think it's clear that part of Henderson's education is positional sense gained from playing on the right, and also the fact that it's easier to give a young player game time when he is not one of the key central positions. That said though his best moments often come when he is in the middle and i see that as his long term position.

All this is pretty much spot on <ok> strange though that you won't offer Spearing the same same leeway despite him performing at least as well as Jordan (much better IMO).

what does one for the future mean? how many 'one for the futures have you seen,or even myself at Spurs that just fade into nothing at all..not even a mention....its like sweeping issues under the carpet..'oh he will sort it out next year'..really? because he cost alot of money he gets more chance than some grafter who ony gets the odd subs appearence to shine?

what baffles me about fans in general is how they seem to find common ground with hyped up,over publiscised players costing big bucks...when as working class fans we should understand the good hardworking footballer more such as Spearing...who is on a par with the 'one for the future' 'big signing' 'big fee' no doubt bigger dick..Henderson...

just shows how one track the minds of many on here would be if they actually were rich and extremely well off.

I believe he is 'one for the future' purely because he has a good foundation to build on.

His technique is very good, good passing, vision, good engine, works hard and has a good attitude - all for a player that is just 20 years old and in his first season at the club. I'm not saying he will be world class in the future but I am saying that at least he already has something to his game which is encouraging.

Spearing is the same - he is technically very good and strong in the tackle. But I don't think he yet posseses the intelligence that Lucas has. But I'm hoping this will come with time.

At the end of the day, if we want to compete with the elite, then can we afford to keep playing the players like Hendo and Spearing? I don't think so - we need quality in those positions and allow Hendo and Spearing to drift in and out of the squad rather than throwing them in at the deep end.

I think you're doing both Hendo and Spearing a disservice. To compete at the very highest levels you need both skill and work. Both lads have the work effort already and not a limited amount of skill.

Hence why we are currently 7th in the league.

I'm not disputing that they both are already good players with bright futures ahead of them but we need a higher level of quality all over the pitch bar the back 4 and Reina.

Spearing has been handled very well IMO in that he is considered as cover for Lucas and he has come in and done a good job. I think we need to buy better players so that Carroll and Henderson can be cover as well.

Hendo for me should not be palying every week. He does look like one for the future but at the moment hes not consistent enough to be playing every. I would rotate him and Shelvey depending on who and where we are playing.

The reason that we are currently 7th has more to do with our forwards having a greater predeliction for woodwork than they do for netting!
