Fergie was merely stating various qualities of various top players which he thinks Rooney has, he wasn't saying Rooney was a better player per say. He mentioned that Pele could 'look after himself', anyone who saw the 66 World Cup will know he was kicked from pillar to post and ended up injured as a result. I think Rooney has the capability to be the best English player bar none, but ask me in 10 years time by which he should have achieved something on the world stage to earn such an accolade. I think Maradona was a better player than Pele who never played in the real top European leagues during his career as Maradona did with success.
