To be fair, he has scored goals where ever he has been, also inspired Uruguay to a Copa America win. Even last season he still ended up our top scorer. As for him going missing when we play badly, Suarez is about the only player who even when we play bad is still a danger and is always chasing down and scaring defenders. Add to that since he joined us he's scored against Man Utd, Man City, Spurs, Chelsea, Arsenal, Newcastle and Everton who are all arguably the best teams in the league. Pretty sure he topped the assist chart for us last season too which is quite impressive. He isn't really a typical center forward and he still has 30 goals this season which speaks for itself really.
There's a lot of bollocks written & spoken about 'World Class' & there's no defined meaning as to what constitutes the label. At it's ultimate it surely means the best player in that position in the World? Irrespective, it's merely a subjective opinion unless you want to use cold stats to rank the 'best' We all watch our own teams & have our own favourite players, who we rate higher than 'X' or 'Y' comparable, ultimately it means knack all, as we're all biased towards our own, as that's the nature of football. Liverpool fans will say Suarez is World Class, whereas I think he's a tremendous footballer, but wouldn't get in my World XI, so for me he isn't, to which someone will come back with their own definition of what World Class is, rinse & repeat, ad infinitum, to the end of time - that's why we love football
As i said I'm not disputing his footballing abilities. Its the games where you've gotten beat or drew and he has gone missing.. Now I dont watch all your games, I tend to only watch MOTD when you get turned over.. I'd guess that the games where he has been immense for you are when you have played well.. As your team has shown signs of their ability this season and you have looked a good side on occasion. Rooney has been our talisman up until this season yes he has the odd poor game but he can drag our team up a gear when we are playing badly as team and do something special. I may be wrong on suarez but when i have watched your highlights of a game and youre playing badly he goes missing.. As BB says its merely an opinion formed on what ive seen. I'd imagine someone like billy or ddddddd would say otherwise as theyre at the games and see what he does off the ball as well.
Fair enough. Your opinion on Suarez is the same I have for Rooney Furthermore, unless you watch the player play every week, you won't get a true representation of what he's like. Highlights like MOTD don't do players any justice (same as YouTube) i.e can make them look good, or lazy etc.
See ive always considered World class as to who could walk into any top team of the world.. As to be best in their position there are numerous players at the similar level in many positions. i genuinely try not to let club rivalry cloud my judgement on an individual player, hence i have always rated gerrard as i did alonso too.
That's how I judge someone as world class. Here's a question - what are your thoughts on Ibrahimovic? Is he world class? Personally, I think he's a gifted player but wouldn't call him world class however he has played for the biggest clubs in the world and has won league titles with each of them ...
Can't really argue with that, but having watched every Liverpool game this season Suarez has really been the difference between 7th place and 10th downwards, a quality both him and Rooney have is that even when they're not at their sharpest, they can produce a piece of brilliance to turn the game on it's head. A good example for Suarez is the home game against Zenit, not only did his first free-kick give us hope, his third free-kick was pure quality to drag us firmly back in to a match. To be unbiased one criticism I have of him is that he can often be wasteful in front of goal, but that hasn't been as often this season. Everything good we do going forward more often than not revolves around Suarez, he leads the line with pressing, chases every lose ball, and often shows skill to get him out of the most trickiest situations. As I say, often he has been the difference between 1-3 points and no points. Certainly not saying he is world-class but you can definitely make a case for him, when he's not scoring he's assisting.
Seems fair to me I think on my analogy as to would he be a welcome addition into any top side in europe i think the answer would be yes.. so on that basis he is, but also on that same basis id say rooney is too. I think when discussing world class the are tiers to it.. the word is used too often and really the only true world class players are the likes of messi ronaldo, zidane etc. but if we move them up to god like status then its a grey area between a ****ing good player or world class and really its very subjective.
My interpretation of 'world class' is that they would get into any squad in the world. So in my eyes, yes, Suarez is world class as any team in the world would take him in their team.
