I was quite interested to see what the responses were here, I'm now disappointed nobody has got it correct yet despite people using it in different ways.

Where do people get this stuff from?

My eldest goes to school with one and they've been like it since around the age of 9 and has changed between a fox, a wolf and now a cat, in-between changing both gender and having multiple names within each gender. Rather than getting them the support they need, their teacher sat all the kids down for a "circle time" to tell all the other kids why they should support this child's preference.

This child comes from a family of three; the eldest is gay, the middle child is trans and they're the youngest.

Could have told him/her/it to stop being daft. Sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind.

Some of their family members are friends of ours and they don't entertain any of it - they continue to call the child by the name on their birth certificate, but other adults, some in positions of authority, are actively enabling it, and that, IMO, is the problem.

Yes, agree that is a problem. You could name a lot of counties, most in fact, where if this nonsense happened they would be given short shrift.
