I can't see where the criticisms of delia have come from, he has evoked a response from a few folk, which is completely unmerited. Surely we all complain, and then support, well the majority of people do. E.g. at man city moro is through on goal, and I ws screaming myself horse at the expecatation of scoring against man city, but from where I was standing I thought he wasn't aggressive, brave or competent enough just to drive on and twat the ball. Therefore, many expletives were aimed at him for approximately 20 seconds before appluading the run effort and encouragment.

Isn't this what most fans experience. it has nothing to do with different generations, my father has hated boo boys at football matches since his first match in the mid 1930s.

And of course, we all have our favourites. I quite like Morison but my son thinks he's not up to it. So of course when Morison misses its "I told you so" but when Holt does its "Oooooo unlucky"

let me word this a bit better. my gripe is not with ilovedelia or indeed anybody on here. my gripe is with people who go to carrow road and do not back the team in the right way. they may say, 'yes, but we pay our money and we expect to be given value for money and be entertained'. well thats fine, but football doesn't work like that - you cannot always be entertained. there is no script, no guarantees. players and managers have a job to do and to stay in their jobs they have to win matches. playing sexy football is great but it cannot always be done. players and managers make mistakes but they still represent every one of us so they deserve to be backed as much as possible. some people, it seems to me, go only to moan at the players or the managers decisions or team selection and generally have a right old whinge.

because things are going pretty well all things considered, these people pick up on the slightest error or, as was the case against fulham, a relatively poor performance first half. now i've been watching city since the late 80s and i've seen a hundred worse performances than the one against fulham and very few of them have been treated in the same negative manner. this is absolute madness in my opinion - again, not suggesting anyone on here booed, but a few have said they were moaning and shouting at morison etc to play better. how can it possibly help our own players to receive insults or criticism from their own fans? it can only have a detrimental effect and boost the opposition players.

players do not have poor games on purpose but when they do they need support, especially when you bare in mind just what a great job they have been doing over a long period of games! when our centre halves have the ball and knock it about at the back you can hear the 'murmurs of discontent'... what do these people want?! these are normally the same people who complain if we knock the ball long!! my position is that as a football fan today, i do not go to the football because i want to see some entertaining football. of course its great to see, but i go because i support my team and that is what i get enjoyment from. if we win, lose or draw, i still get value for money because i get to sing songs, have banter and watch some football. if thats different from others then fine, but the majority of people my age go for precisely the same reason, and thats all i'm trying to say <ok>

I agree with most of what you say Supers, in that we are there to support the team, hence the word supporters! I also agree that overt criticism of the team at the time of the match is unhelpful and can play a detrimental role. If a persons goal is to go and whine at the team, then I'd agree that Carrow Road would be better off with out them. But it's not an age thing, your final sentence sums up the main reason for going for everybody, banter, chat with friends and fellow supporters, etc.

No problem Superman, as I've said previously I'm not here to pick a fight, just, the same as, you air my opinions.
I do understand what you are putting forward for the most part, but there is always two ways of looking at things. To applaud and cheer someone who is not doing the job can be seen as encouragement for them to improve OR could be seen as satisfaction for a poor performance. In the world of work I inhabit, if your'e not performing as you should then someone lets you know, and you try to improve. Old fashioned maybe but that's how it looks through my eyes.
I don't turn up to matches to have a go at the team or manager, but it is entertainment which ever way you look at it, that's why people go, and I believe that my £100 every week gives me the right to be entertained for 1 1/2 hours. The Spurs game was disappointing in as much as we lost, but it was entertaining, and we now get to see the likes of Bale, Modric, Van der Vartt etc, playing at Carrow Road. It gives us all a chance to gauge our players/team against the best in the world, and so far we're doing a bloody marvelous job.
I'm happy to leave now as I don't think there's any more to be said. Your'e an eloquent young man and I enjoy reading your comments, carry on!
Thanks to everyone else who's taken part and to 1950 for kicking it off.

    Hi Redruth,
Sorry for not acknowledging you earlier, but I just needed to get off here. I read a lot of the posts on here and also visit the now sadly depleted Shakepit just to see what people are saying, but I'm afraid, (and there are NO insult's intended to anyone) I find it very insular and matey for a debating site. I enjoyed fencing with superman, at least he had the balls to argue his point of view. But at the end of it all we are the City faithful even if we have different views on what we see. So even though I'm not posting, I'm watching!
