In our "golden era"? Come off it JWM, that's still ahead of us, round the corner. But we're on the way. And, crikey what a set of results in the Championship today (and the Premiership over the holiday weekend). Must be down to that there global warming ........ PS I'm so ancient I confess to regularly making the trip down to watch Town when Ray Crawford was terrorising defences. That was when we were a middling to poor 2nd Division side and could only dream of 1st Division football.
If we're in our 'golden era', does that make me around 20 years younger? Great times now, though! Anybody that doesn't lap up every second of what's happening now is either an idiot, or too young to understand.
Personally Dave, I thought that was quite good for me, or should I own up and say that was my daughter's own work?
I don't normally post on here, BUT, I just can't let this go. I was at the Fulham game, I didn't hear ANY booing apart from some aimed at the ref. The first half of that game was by far and away the worst Norwich City performance I have witnessed for many games, and as it costs me about £100 per game, (me and my wife) I reserve the right to make my opinions known. I thought Morison was a disgrace in that first half, continually offside, no ball control, no calling for the ball, no outlet, why was he playing on the left wing leaving Hoops in the middle to face 2 giant centre backs? On the phone in's he was being called lazy, I don't agree that he's lazy, but his demeanor gave that impression. Things changed when Holt came on. As to Paul Lamberts verbal attack on us the fans, I'm not at all pleased with what was said. He's a great manager and I have nothing but praise for what he has achieved and is still, and hopefully will continue to do. I like "1950canary" have supported my club for many years, through thick and thin, good and bad, rough and smooth, but I keep going to Carrow Road spending my hard earned money, cheering on my team and never booing them. But I think it needs to be realised that WE fill the ground every home game and generally take up our full allocation for the away games, being a football supporter means that we do expect our team to do well, you only have to listen to the conversations walking to the ground, you hardly ever hear it said that we're going to be thrashed, mostly it's a win or against the higher opposition a draw. So yes we do have expectations of our team maybe sometimes it's misguided, but thats why we go every week, expecting the best. THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT!!! In conclusion don't have a go at the loyal supporters, just put what's wrong right, which, to his credit he did!! ILD OTBC
There WAS booing (see earlier posts). The City fans WERE "quiet"; the smallish Fulham contingent made far more noise for much of the game. Ever since he came in, PL has constantly said how great the support is for the team and how much it is appreciated, especially at away matches. In my experience, in recent years the Carrow Road crowd HAS BECOME far too inclined to wait for the team to galvanise them, rather than try to galvanise the team when they are a bit below par. If supporters go to every match EXPECTING (as opposed to hoping) to win, or at least draw, that just confirms what has been said in earlier posts about unrealistic expectations.
can't agree with ilovedelia i'm afraid. too many people turn up and expect victories or to be entertained by beautiful football. football is not always like that. people call it an entertainment business but it isn't like that for 99.9% of people who go and watch. its about tribalism and as far as i'm concerned, if morison is having a poor game or johnson sends a pass astray from 5 yards, i don't boo - i get on my feet and sing a song about them or shout words of encouragement, even if they can't hear me, cos i support norwich city, no matter how good or how **** they are. football supporters need to get behind their team as much as they can. of course it works both ways and we need to see something to inspire us too - its not one way traffic - but lambert's dig, and thats all it was, is designed to give us all a bit of a reality check. he isn't telling us were all useless - he's reminding us that we have a part to play, especially when you consider how youthful our team is and how difficult the league is.
There is nothing wrong with hoping for the best but in the Premier League can we really expect it in any game and even resort to booing if the best does not happen? I don't think so!! I go to the theatre every week and hope/expect to be thoroughly entertained but if I am disappointed the applause is muted but I have never heard anybody boo. The same applies to my regular visits to concerts. There are people who will say that football is different but why? Going back to Fulham, Morison did not deliberately have a poor game by his standards and PL did not deliberately pick the wrong team so why the booing and more importantly what does it achieve? There was booing and some of it came from behind me. One of the instigators was a chap who often makes it clear that in his opinion NCFC would now be even higher in the League if we had given that lovely Bryan Gunn longer to turn it round. Most of us around him just laugh or ignore him - perhaps we should take a leaf out of his book and turn round and boo him!!!
Never booed city, gave a few managers a bit of stick. Normally though the game before a manager is sacked is pretty deathly, everyone knows they're gone. Did give fotheringham some abuse and did cheer when he was subbed. We've sat through a lot of bad games in the last 5 years or so, lambo years apart of course. Seems like a lot of bandwagon fans don't have the tolerance of a few years back
I repeat, I didn't hear any booing!! I don't know how long you've been a supporter Robbie, but my memory tells me it's always been the same at Norwich, a bit reserved. As to expecting or hoping, I always "expect" to be entertained, I never hope it's going to happen. You feel differently, I'm not criticising you for that, I just disagree. I was dissapointed that we didn't beat Wolves after being 2-1 up, and "expected" us to go on and win that game. I was more than dissapointed with the first half performance against Fulham, I can't bring myself to slavishly applaud that, it didn't deserve it. The second half was more in keeping with what we've come to "expect". All the so called pundits/experts say that you have to win your home games especially against teams that you are considered to be on a par with. I think that's expectation not hoping. I'm not on here to pick fights with you or anyone else, but as I said in my previous post, I am entitled to my opinion the same as the rest of you and that includes Paul Lambert. ILD OTBC
i too didn't hear any booing but it definitely happened - it was widely reported. i don't think younger people go to football today to be entertained as their main priority - i know i don't - i go to support my club. maybe its entirely a generation thing but i wasn't disappointed with the first half against fulham other than the scoreline - i was more interested in backing us to score early 2nd half and get ourselves back in the game. if the game had been hopeless and we'd won last kick of the game of someones backside (doing a coney) i would have been over the moon. i'd have had a very happy week. having said all that, i don't want to be bored - i want to see good football and enjoy what i'm watching and in the past, if we've played well and still lost it hasn't bothered me as i could still be proud of my team.
You lot kill me at times! Just be bloody thankfull for what you've got. I have a season ticket at Portman Road to watch that pile of ****e for **** Sakes!
