I was watching the replay of Brazil '08 yesterday, and it got me thinking, what position would Red Bull be in next year if the junior team of Toro Rosso was faster than them next year, in the same way they were in '08? Obivously, it probably won't happen, and I wonder if Ricciardo and whichever other driver is still there could produce the kind of results Vettel did back then due to the stupidly high level of competition there is now but what impact do you think that'd have on Webber and Vettel?
I think it's funny that Ricciardo's future at Toro Rosso is more secure than Buemi and Alguersuari's at the moment:D

Interesting point. That season Redbull had Coulthard and webber and STR had Vettel and Bourdais. It seemed like RBR went completely off the boil but we then saw they had created a race winning car for 2009. STR were regular point scorers with RBR but it was the win in Monza that put STR ahead. They were also using pretty much the same car that year which is not allowed now and STR have to make their own.

I dont think STR will ever top the first team again and possibly the 2nd team idea is a lost cause for them and they will probably sell the toro rosso team soon. Ricciardo has prooved they can pay to race thier drivers rather than running another team.

Too right. I wonder though, if they sell STR and pay to race their drivers for other teams, how long they would get away with it. I can't imagine Hispania lasting much longer so that option is gone. Force India and Sauber wouldn't do it as they run their own young drivers, I think probably the most realistic option would be to send the drivers to Lotus as they use Renault engines and Red Bull gearboxes, and are the only backmarker team in the Renault family.
 
I think the reason why Toro Rosso had a faster car than Red Bull in 2008 was because they had pretty much the same chassis and aero package but had a more powerful Ferrari engine rather than the Renault engine, but then in 2009 customer teams were banned so Toro Rosso had to design their own chassis and aero. If they had not banned customer cars in 2009 then I think Red Bull would of stopped giving Toro Rosso the current spec stuff and instead given them older stuff because it would be pretty embarrassing for them that their sister team were better and I think Vettel and Webber would be none to happy either.

On the Toro Rosso seats for next year I hope it is Ricciardo and Buemi, I do not care that Alguersuari brings in money or has a powerful dad or whatever, I do not think he is good enough.
 
They are so tightly matched it will be really hard for Toro Rosso to decide who to kick from one of there 2 seats to enable Ricciardo a go in the STR.

I think Toro Rosso will never be faster than Red Bull again, they are being used as a testing ground for the Red Bull seats.

STR will probably keep whichever driver has the most points at the end of the season which makes me think they'll keep Buemi because I doubt Alguersuari can outscore him in the last half of the season.
 
well they have a better engine imo so it's possible. And torro rosso were only beating rbr because of Vettel who scored 35 out of the 39 points they scored, the simple fact is RBR's car was good enough but their drivers weren't, both Webber and couthard are/were vastly over-rated
 
To my knowledge (which is limited) the 2008 RBR and Toro Rosso had the same chassis, but different aero packages. The str favoured high speed circuits, whereas the red bull preferred corners.
