It was Jason Paul who was arrested for GBH, he got £30k in compensation for malicious arrest, as it was believed he was only arrested to deflect from the death in custody.

Ye, from the book, he attended the police station the day after, voluntarily, with a solicitor, and explained he hit his mate in self defence and they initially tried to pin murder on him. From the CCTV in the station, manslaughter from neglect should clearly have been the charge against the custody sergeant.

Think when reported is was said that Chris Alder when in Waterfront had to be restrained by by a fair few Doormen/bouncers as he was going full on. He was a strong guy.

Am I right in thinking the Police claimed that he had a history of faking unconsciousness?

The argument/theory was, that it shouldn't have mattered what happened before he was taken into custody and that he, like everyone else, had a right to care and to be protected.

The CCTV and transcripts were very damning - the custody sergeant was older, clearly negligent and playing the 'seen it all before' card and two of the officers also didn't perform their duties to the right standard. Their arguments were based on that he'd been signed out by A&E, whereas in fact, the medical staff were unable to do a proper check due to his condition. The alleged monkey noises were explained that one of the officers was taking the piss and imitating his gasping noises whilst he was dying.

The family and their supporters maintain that racism meant that he wasn't given the right standard of care, especially after a younger officer showed some concern and suggested a medical check, that was denied by the custody sergeant.

A messy case where the police and judiciary came out looking terrible. It's outrageous that officers were laughing and joking around whilst a man laid dying on the floor.

All a complete contrast to the policeman with no thought to his own safety , who tackled the muderer with the sword down south who is to be sentenced today .
