    Here's more for us oldies.

    Saturday Televison
In the Good Old Days there used to be sport of some sort in the afternoon. At tea-time (we didn't have dinner in the evening in them days) there would be Doctor Who, Morcambe and Wise or a decent series such as Starsky and Hutch (as it seemed in those days) Saturday Night At the Movies followed by Match of the Day and then Parkie before bedtime.

Now we get Flog Rare Family Heirlooms for a Fiver, a crappy quiz show, four hours of dancing or miming or something starving the brain of oxygen before the nation is lobotomised.

    Modern Music
We used to have people who could sing and even though the may look like the arse end of a donkey they got a deal (point in mind Paul Rogers) now it's all hair stylists and AutoTune. There's even an AutoTune equivilentfor drummers and guitarists. Little wonder we haven't seen the modern day likes of Rogers, Coverdale, Mercury, Dio, Blackmore, Page, Beck, Lord, Powell or Peart. Everyone thinks they're a musician if they mix farts and beeps together. The good test is to challenge them with "Can you do that in C?"

    Tackling
One upon a time a Good Honest Tackle was getting the ball. No matter that the opposition went into low-earth orbit or needs treatment (with a cold wet sponge by a bloke in a flat cap and a half finished *** who was once a struck off vetinarian). A shoulder charge send the opposition into the hoardings or into the cinder ash bit by the side of the pitch. Noboady 'went down easily' in them days as the ref would just run by and give a sly toe-jab into the kidneys for being a nancy.

    Health and Safety
Need to say any more? Conkers, walking to school, playing footie in the back alleys after dark, British Bulldog, hi-viz this and insurance culture that. My mate is a teacher and has to fill in risk assessment form before taking the kids out on a school trip and he is told to list every possible risk that could befall a child. He was told to desist when he was giving risk assessments of asteroid strikes and that bringing back 95% of the pupils back would be considered a success in modern day industry and would it matter if the right children were returned as long as the numbers were right? It has to be said that his promotion prospects look poor this year.

This, and pardew this season..actually, just in general.., reminds me of the simpsons episode where homers dictionary entry keeps changing to reflect how he was viewed.

Some of the recent simpsons episodes have been pardewed as well. And its probably his fault 'n all.

Generally the simspons is dreadful these days mind. Doesn't bear thinking about. The woman who does the voice for mrs krabbapel died recently.

Note to self: stop rambling morosely about the simpsons

I used to love the Simpsons but haven't watched it for a good few years now. I'm deeply saddened to hear that it may have gone downhill. Why Pardew?! Why?!!
