Polter did very well in the cameo he had in my opinion. Thought Konchesky was woeful last night, pushes too far up on too many occasions, resorts to hitting it long an awful lot, and his touch lets him down at times. Over the course of the season (so far), he's been very hit and miss for me. It's also obvious that a lot of teams are told to exploit him as our weak link.
Well done, StanleyPB, I think this thread is overdue: I wasn't overwhelmed when we signed Konchesky and, like others on here, I would have liked to see Yun and Kpekawa get some game time. However, after an unimpressive start, I think Konchesky has steadily improved and he gets far too much criticism on this board. Sure, his passing and his crossing aren't perfect (whose is?) but let's recognise what he does well. He's part of a defence which has looked increasingly solid, he gets forward and links well with the players ahead of him. He wants the ball and he works to make himself available. He's solid defensively and always seems to give 100%. I saw him get caught up the pitch last night when Brighton broke quickly and he looked very quick when he chased back to (successfully) cover the danger. OK, so he's not going to get the POTY award but I'm pleased to have him: a good, honest, seasoned pro (unlike many we've seen lately).
I'm not saying they are a poor side - they looked decent enough - it was that they seemed to play with a kind of cockiness which wasn't warranted. Perhaps that is the secret of their unbeaten run - supreme confidence. Where's that Steve Black fella these days?
Blackie? At Burnley probably, finding a way. I'm speaking from a position of supreme ignorance because I didn't watch last night and haven't seen Brighton play this year. I just detest the Championship, in my usual informed and balanced way.
