We are frantically trying to tie him down to a new deal right now I understand. He said at weekend he needed to discuss things with his parents... I'd be disappointed if he chose to go to Villa rather than stay with us, as they are complete bobbins. He's one of our best players, I'm confident we will do all we can to keep him.
Never mind his left toe, it wouldn't even buy his toenail. Well listen when they bid in excess of £10m
He was certainly a good signing for Reading and I do remember quite a few thinking it was a good idea for us at the time.
£1.5M, they're having a giraffe! If there's one thing that Pearson said that was genuinely truthful it was that Chester is worth at least £5M. There is absolutely no way that SB or the Allam's would risk our climb into the PL for such a paltry amount, and I seriously doubt whether they would even consider a bid £5M! Total non story!
That's an easy one to answer. 1. Chester would make a decision about joining Villa or not before the end of the season and therefore whilst they are still a Premiership side. 2. Villa are one of the top 6 clubs in the country and always will be whatever division they are in. Any player from Hull City offered the chance to play for Aston Villa in the Premiership would be a fool not to accept. 3. Villa would probably triple Chester's wages. 4. Chester is ready for Premiership football. He's 23, is our best player and has conquered the Championship. He's ready for the step up. The position we are in and Villas valuation of him count in our favour but the bottom line is that if he wants to go only the fee will be the issue and we must make sure we get top dollar for our prize asset and by that I mean a minimum of £5m.
How can you sell your prized asset for 5m, he is still only 23 and has years to progress still. It would be mental. Unless he shows a desire to leave we shouldn't listen to anything less than 10m (the Allams have no desire to sell, remember. So any sale should be on our terms.)
This rumour is probably put out by Chester agent, to get the best deal possible for him. Chester already said on Tiger player that negotiations were starting about a new contract with us, and that he was waiting for his mum and dad to come back off holiday, who is discusses these matters with, and then see where that takes him.
If the two clubs remain in similar league positions come January then I can't see Chester moving to Villa
I'd have thought that given what we paid for him, how well he's done while he's been here and who's looking to buy him, I think £3.5m to £4.5m is probably about right. I just don't think we could replace him with somebody better, plus I'm not sure he'd want to leave just yet anyway so I think it'd be a non starter.
Easy! If he refuses to sign a new contract and asks to talk to Villa, you have to sell him. We have very wealthy owners, now, but they intend the club to be self financing. We could not afford to turn our back on selling any player IF THE MONEY IS SUBSTANTIAL. That is how we could sell our prized asset. Are you confusing the reality of the situation with some kind of dreamland where players are no longer professional and all they want to do is please the fans of the club they play for?
He can't talk to anyone unless we accept an offer and we're certainly not going to entertain a pissy £1.5m bid, if they start talking big numbers then I'm sure the Allam's will consider it, but we're nowhere near that at the moment.
I know this has been answered before but I can't remember where. How long is left on Chester's current contract?
Obviously the priority is to get him signed up to a longer deal so we can get a larger fee if his head gets turned. To be honest I think he'll stay with us until next summer and then if we're still in the championship he'll reassess.
