I just couldn't see us playing the way we are now if Amy was still here, on paper it's a cracking line up. But I'm still blinded by hatred for the lanky prick and I'm chuffed he's flopping at liverfool.

There's no width in that formation, what's the point in playing Carroll if there's no crosses coming in. Jonas, Marv & HBA would all want to cut inside, there would be no supply getting Carroll to his head.

Got to say that is a quality team. Santon in his more natural position, with Jose left back. Possibly have the best full backs in the league! Carroll still top class and far from someone who you just lump the ball too. He is actually better when it comes into feet or chest and they have to foul him. Still a cut above Best and Ba for me, and better technically. C'est la vie but I do think that would have threatened top 6 on first xi. Of course we couldn't have afforded to keep Jose/Carroll and sign the players we have but it is a nice thought.

  4. Although Barton is a better crosser of the ball than any winger we have now, I like the fact that we have pace on each wing now. Barton is almost as slow as a Nolan, sprint speed wise.

  5. What do you mean? Yes Marv and Jonas would want to cut in a lot, but that means they could also put in a lot of in swinging crosses.

    100% agree with This.

Jonas cuts inside and runs at defenders, Marv fairly much the same though we haven't seen enough of him to judge fully, Carroll needs someone who regularly putting in crosses because it takes him 5 or 6 attempts at crosses before he gets one in.

I like our current style of play, it's less Stoke.

Carroll could fit into our current style of play no problem. He is better than both both our current strikers and has better technique for me. He is more suited to the ball played on the floor in open play. The only place his height really comes into effect is when attacking crosses. I think some have him pigeon holed wrong, same as opposing fans before we sold him. Lumping the ball up to him is not actually very effective from what we witnessed. He won his fair share but not every ball. Most of him and Nolans goals came from little passes between the two, or lay offs.
