No I don't think we discussed this before? Quite a coincidence that we were both in DB at the same time. Whereabouts were you living? I had a bijou (aka tiny) GF apartment on Parkview going up to the floodlit golf course Having just reread this thread I can't believe we are 4 years older but sadly not wiser Have also traded Sheffield for Doha and am actively undermining WC2022 which in all honestly will be a complete and utter shambles
I was in Caperidge Drive mate working on the Tsing Ma bridge to the new airport. I was chatting to Rollercoaster today and he said he thought you were in Doha.
I used to get the company boat back from Chep Lap Kok each night and we would try to see how many beers we could drink before we went under the bridge. Good albeit alcoholic times. I was with a consulting firm on the Airside infrastructure projects Yes I took the big expat tax free coin and joined the last of the great gravy trains here in Qatar. Not been back to UK for over a year now but planning on catching a game over the Christmas period. I do miss the 'normality' of seeing Rangers play and the halftime pie but I'm not used to this winning lark.
I knew a few guys on the Airport. I had a good mate called Paul Midland who also lived in DB. We used to all spend most Friday nights in the plaza buying "rounds" from the 7-11. People used to join us as they got off the ferries. I have really great memories of those days.
What do you all do for a living - Health & Safety Officer for company that provide education and residential care for children and adults with severe challenging behaviours and learning difficulties. These children and young adults have basically turned all the training I have had, upside down and inside out and make you think outside the box. And you do learn from these kids and young adults as much as you hope to improve and enhance their lives. What age are you - I am a young 49 - born in 1967 I guess I was destined to follow the Superhoops And whereabouts do you live - my postal address is Verwood in Dorset, and I live in Surrey. I got into H&S work by accident and enjoy the work - it is always evolving and if it wasn't for one incident, I would have been going down a more environmental career path. Not married (yet) no kids. Someone on the horizon and a little bit of travelling planned to Australia to see my brother, his wife and their little girl. Starting in Perth, with trips to Alice Springs, Sydney and Melbourne planned. also DJ (should really consider retiring for this) and collect rare music as a past time - still buy vinyl, cd's but cannot fathom this downloading lark as it just appears you buy air time and have nothing physical to hold.
First game for Rangers - first home game was against Portsmouth in a cup game where we scored 5, first away game at Stamford Bridge where (mid week game) when we one 2-0. My dad's words to me were If Rangers score you need to stay sat down as we are in the main stand (opposite the pensioners)........we scored and I jumped up!! Both games were in the 80's
Im older.....in fact so old I have retired officially. Work retirement do today.... My "I'm not dead yet" party tomorrow. Recovery starts Sunday
Should probably fill in my section on this topic; Name: Harry Age: 27 Born: Hillingdon, Middlesex Lives: Camberley, Surrey Occupation: Business Analyst Lead No kids that I'm aware of, been a QPR fan all my life, and I'm captain of Sandhurst Town FC who play in the same division as Charlie Austin did not too long ago for Kintbury Rangers.
So are you still out in Qatar then mate. As an update I went back to HK this summer for a holiday. We twinned it up with Lankawi. I really enjoyed going back but I have to say there is a definite changing demographic there. A distinct watering-down of 'gweilos' now. So much so that on a day in Ocean Park we had a mainland Chinese family take some photos of us with them as they clearly hadn't seen many westerners. The fact that my ginger-haired sister and nephew were with us may have been something to do with it as well!!
Hell' teeth another year gone by, still working but trying to wind down a little. Only 2 years 7 months until I can become "master of my own destiny" as my pension adviser put it........ Decided I have to do less working and take more time off as 2 recent unexpected deaths of people that I know has put into sharp focus the need to enjoy what we have today and don't put off plans as you just never know......... Off course supporting the R's does bugger all for your health.......
Now nearly 63, out of work, my 5 kids have given us 17 grandchildren ( breeding like rabbits they are) still waiting for a blooming cup run
I am now nearly 57 and going blind plus had a load of cancer cut out of my head last couple of years I now live mainly in France (Languedoc) Live with my girlfriend in London when here ( Kingston or Sutton now) Still making pretty pictures and films but for bigger clients: John Lewis Tesco etc etc boring boring for less money than i was getting 10 years ago but bollocks who needs it Still playing football when i am in the UK Heart attack is due
There must have been a similar thread to this a while back because I have given a few details previously, but not here, apparently. Anyway... 51 years years young and have spent very nearly half of my life in Sweden. Totally had enough of teaching horrible, cocky, respectless 13-15 year old ****s and counting the days until I can retire. (Wish I were a fireman!)
Now a young 67 & semi retired, at present doing 4day week but from feb down to 3day week result! Now live in Shirley Croydon, been coming to HQ for 58 years long prison sentence but love every minute of it, well sometimes, now got 5 grandchildren & love them to bits.
Today I have been being mostly a little bit hungover. How dare they sell such good beer so cheaply in Prague. Now 56 and 3/4. Lighter a kidney and about 25lbs since last year. Company cutting at least 3,500 jobs worldwide by voluntary early retirements and redundancies, but I’m not on any lists, despite aggressive lobbying verging on begging, the ****ers.
I turn 64 next month - still working as an IT business & data analyst in Atlantic Canada. Now only one of my five daughters is still living at home and she'll be gone to uni in a couple years - of the others, three in uni (one in Paris), the oldest working in health care management, so 6 years of uni and 2 degrees did open doors for her when at a job fair she was head-hunted by a large health care provider, one year contract, now FTE that at least enables her to start paying off C$58,000 in student debt that we have co-signed for. Now time in my life to do something for myself, health care wise, with all those nasty #'s creepin up - blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar etc, so I have have been swimming every day for past couple of months completing most days 50 continuous 25m laps of front crawl in around 30 mins, so I still have the right stuff in the university pool that is unfortunately closing without a replacement next year - really cheap with alumni & senior discounts (4 mths for $60). This new exercise regime has allowed me to lose 15 lbs too. An eye exam late summer also revealed that I require cataract surgery ASAP and I am on a 6 month waiting list for surgery, also on a short notice cancellation list if someone else cannot make their appointment date - eyes are done two weeks apart, my right is quite bad now - hazy/blurry, so driving into direct sunshine or bright headlights at night is somewhat challenging these days. As others have indicated, my life sentence started 52 years ago when I was 11, and I'm never getting out, even for good behaviour - have the faith in St. Jude!
