Looking forward to handing over one of our projects end of Feb, it’s been nothing but a pain in my arse since last winter.

Probably gonna head to New York at some point this year, so that might be good, will be taking a 2yr old though so won’t be able to go to clubs and bars or shows... probably be ****e actually then.

The rest is top secret soz.

I love it when lads go and get SMSTS and think it means they can run a site and should get more money.

Yeah I see that a lot, but Comm was a site manager in Thailand for the purpose of this conversation.

    Ah, ok.

Did a three year development in Devon and took on a good few local lads in that time.

One was a willing labourer/groundworker and so I sent him on various training. Became a 360 op, which upped his wages and future earnings straight away.

Sent him on SSSTS so he could open up site and basically be the H&S 'trained' guy on site when he did occasional weekend checks etc.

Had the cheek to come and ask for a raise immediately after he'd done it!

He should have been giving me a bung for helping him to feed his family for the rest of his life!

    Cheeky ****.

    I have got that, yes.

Worked Local authority for ages then went engineering/surveyor for a contractor when I realised I could be stuck there forever.

Then site engineer, THEN did SMSTS became sub agent etc. etc.

Been with the big boys (Balfour Beatty) but am now at a large regional business. Much prefer that.

Yeah I see that a fair bit as well, we’ve had a few lads doing that sort of thing.

Site managers are pulling in 250-300 a day on decent sites up here now so it’s not surprising that the lads wanna have a try.

    Which is fair enough.

It's when some get that 'badge' and think it means they can be utter ****s to the rest of the workforce.

Shamelessly too, as if being able to hold a pen and tick some multiple choice answers makes them something!

If you can use it and put it into practice, while still being good at your actual job, then that's different and they deserve to make headway.

The Devon lad by the way, still going strong on a housing site which is part of the overall development we were on.

Saw him the other week during a 12 month defect inspection. It's good to know we gave the kid a career!!

I had all sorts, one claimed I'd assaulted him when we were having words (CCTV showed this to not be the case), one took months off with stress for alleged persecution (by a supervisor) one silly twat fell off a dumper and brought an HSE investigator on my back.

The industry is full of ****wits and I have a hard time trusting most of them. Too many agency fly by nights who'd happily stick a knife in your back.

I don’t really get involved with who’s who on site or undermine managers on sites by asking questions but I do hear a lot of stories in project meetings etc.

Doesn’t stop the lads asking me for all sorts of **** when I visit their sites though. Fuel cards are a popular request.

I've got no option but to be involved as I have to place men on sites and know what each does.

I try not to be too pally but they want to be all the time and tell you all sorts of personal life ****. How some of them function is beyond me sometimes. It's hard to be completely detached.

Bought my house 3 years ago now, might actually get it finished this year.

Not bothered by holidays, been to every continent already (except Antartica) and **** knows how many countries but now I am actually a full time employee might actually take a proper one for the first time in a few years.

    Saints getting relegated

Think that's about it, probably missing something
