Here's a little tip, though you may already know - if you like heavy, inky reds then Chilean/Argentinian Malbec Reserve is a must try. Always fairly reasonable, but here's the warning - the word "Reserva" (with an 'a' at the end) is unmoderated in South America, meaning they can stick it on whatever they want and it doesn't actually mean the wine meets the criteria for being a Reserve. Instead, always try and buy Malbec Reserve - there's a massive difference in quality.

For anyone else regarding wine, never pay less than £5 for a bottle. Always aim for an RRP of at least £10, and there's a reason. The bottling, labelling and getting the wine into a bottle is a constant cost of, say, £1.80 per bottle. For the most part, associated costs of someone selling wine at a profit is also a constant, say around £1 per bottle. What you end up with is paying - for a fiver - around £2.20 for 14% alcohol. The quality of the liquid inside is closer to Babycham than champers. Some costs are unnecessary - the branding of "Champagne" (which is almost exactly the same as Prosecco and Cava) adds money, limited edition adds money without guarantees on the quality and advertising brands also add costs without improving the drink (Jacobs Creek, Wolf Blass, etc.). So you're always better off going for a varietal of grape that fits in with your tastes, which then has a number of processes added, and never looking at anything that is less than £10 RRP. As I said, I prefer darker grapes such as Mouverdre, Nebbiolo and Malbec, which have been oak aged - makes for a rich, smooth drink.

Love a Nebbiolo too. I like the cut of your gib Rolando. Deep reds I love. Yeah I did know with the South American ones about the Resevra thing. The new world stuff has been an untapped gold mine though. There is some lovely stuff coming out of there. I too try to aim around £10. The missus claims she doesn't care and can drink anything, but she soon notices when I treat us to an extra special one.

Champagne is not a brand it is a recognised region in France, the output of this region is protected under international law hence why all other sparkling wines are not permitted to call themselves Champagne, Prosecco is an Italian Sparkling wine produced in specific areas of italy, it was originally made from a Grape actually called Prosecco now it is called Glera, Cava is produced again from specific regions in Spain, prodominantly the Catalonia region, again it has specific grapes used in production, to quantify both these products as being about the same as Champagne is nonsense, there are many fine sparling wines but none that can compare to any of the Grand Marques in Champagne.

I could go on a lot more about wines but the subject is massive and expansive, the only sensible criteria for picking and drinking something is do you like it, the price, ABV and packaging don't matter only whether you like it and can drink it happily.

After three days of being wasted on Lager and Cider, tonight I will watch the match drinking nothing more than Lucozade.
Perhaps in two hours time, after we've stuffed, I'll be wishing I was still on the booze.
Sound turned off for the match, and I'll be listening to sounds of 'From The Jam' tonight.

Should have gone to Salford its a lot cheaper, :emoticon-0100-smile, great banner by your lads at Swansea by the way, only there were not enough L,s in it for my liking. :emoticon-0100-smile:, seriously tho', I hope we both stay up and the Boro clinch promotion, no reason why there should not be three NE teams in the Premiership. I hope we all drink to that!!!

Not long back in from work, been sanding most of the day and have a throat like Ghandi's flip flop.

Popped in to a new shop that's opened in Melton and got 12 cans of Oranjeboom. for the princely sum of £1 per can.

    Goodnight everyone.
