I don't think universities should be offering honorary degrees just because a chairman's club did well. He's just doing a great job like lots of other people do. Most people who do a great job wouldn't expect to get an honorary degree. Just seems like a PR stunt.

And neither should he get a knighthood. If we win the Champions League maybe, but not for getting us to mid-table in the Premier League. If he gets one than all Prem chairmen should get one. A bit pointless.

You sure don't help your cause sometimes casual . I've seen honorary degrees given for less & given he is a swan , you'd think you'd be pleased for him

    He certainly doesn't,cracker.
I gave him the benefit of the doubt until recently, but this kind of continuous negativity reeks of bloob to me.
So I am now inclined to go along with Dill, valley,et al,in thinking he is from the dark side.

agree casual. these honorary degrees are worthless and no need for doing a job of insignificance as football is. to give a knighthood to people involved with football or any sport is a kick in the teeth for the real people who do something significant......Its a joke.....Dame kelly holmes for god sake..come on she is a sports woman who happen to be good, so why make her a dame....Its laughable, the same with pop stars, polictitions and the like.....you dont see real people getting these awards many times as its rich famous people getting these awards .......

All prem chairmen should get one? Are you kidding me? Have all the premiership chairmen been in charge of their clubs whilst helping them rise from the brink of extinction to a mid table premier league team in less than 10 years on a shoestring budget? I'll let you answer this question yourself.

The " Swans " have helped there community through tough economic times with there success & all that comes with it . I'm sure even Swansea City University has benefited from the " Swans " rise to the Premier League & see Huw as the fans " LEADER " . Lots of honorary degrees being given out on the night , Huw is just one .

I agree in principle,Dai. The so called honours system needs overhauling, and the likes of those you highlight should not be recipients.

However,I don't see any problem with honorary degrees being given out by Universities. Most sensible people realise that they are a bit of a joke.No-one gets hurt if Huw Jenkins gets one. It's a local award and shouldn't impact on the rest of the country.

Our disingenuos bloob visitor would have a totally different point or view on the honorary degree if it was being awarded to someone involved with cardiff city.

His opinion can be dismissed for that reason.

Actually you do see real people getting these awards, I know two personally who got an MBE. But the press only really reports prominent people getting these. And people getting awards for entertainment get a small recognition for stuff they have done for years, and that is bringing enjoyment to others, where is the bad in that ? Where is the kick in the teeth in that ?

Sorry to disappoint you Vetch but I would feel exactly the same were it our own Vincent Tan. Dai sums up the whole awards and honours systems perfectly. Not much I agree with Dai on football wise but we are singing from the same hymn sheet on this subject.

Daiswan's comments on Jenkins can be dismissed easily also because of his long history of dislike for Huw , Casual's the same , seems to look down on any Swan achievement but perks up when something bad happens ... which is fine but predictable , much like itiwran 's articles toward the Swans , likes to drive a wedge & sit back .... haven't seen him post an article on the Swans without this concept up front & center . P'S . Out of the three Bob , I'll go with the " Malaysians " the worst is yet to come

Why do I find it so difficult, nay impossible, to believe you?

    You needn't answer.

P.S. The "honours system",which is promoted by politicians and dished out by mrs.windsor,or one of her brats, does not include the type of award that local Universities award.

You claim to be Huw's "friend",Dai.

It's sad to see that you want to deny your "friend" this award. It's costing you nothing.

So how much does an award cost then ? Beyond a piece of paper and a listing in the London Gazette its very negligible.

I dont know if you are educated enough vetch to understand what i am saying....Its nothing to do with jinks at all its to do with meaningless waste of money for a pointless awards that get dished out for nothing especially in sport. they need to abolish all this backslapping for doing their job or give an award for people who actually deserve it like my dad who worked underground for 48 years..... People like them should be recognised for what they done and not these people who are doing a job in sport that is no importance other than entertainment.....
