Working on mine .... Perversely, the rise of City means he is hanging on to his United identity as he has now returned to Manchester to work. There are so many newbie City fans around he feels the need to wear his United identity even more so.

Looking at your location, I would have to ask why your lad was a United fan to begin with. Whenever I stay over down South after a home game, I am tempted to get my road atlas out and ask those with Liverpool or United stickers in their cars to show me either city on the map!

This morning I was unaware that the West Ham deal for the Olympic Stadium had fallen through. I turned onto Sky just as the words 'Olympic Stadium has collapsed' went across on a banner! Certainly got my attention.

I dropped off my partner on the way to work the other day, and then set sat nav to carry on to work in London for me as it was a route I wasn't sure of and I felt lazy. After a while, I realised the town I was driving through was the wrong way. I'd set it for home, not work!

Absolutely. Fran, overall, would you say the Island is more Saints than Poopy (whoops, another Freudian slip) I've always wondered?

Pompey always claim that the Island is more blue than red, but I do think it's regional due to proximity of ferry. Ryde goes to Portsmouth, Cowes to Southampton. At work, it's about even, though being mainly female there are few football supporters anyway. The Pompey fans are starting to hide from me..rarely see the food manager for some reason!! One tried escaping into the men's fitting room but forgot there was only 1 exit and I had him trapped. Sadly, kids still tend to wear ManU etc kits, but I do see some Saints kits in Newport and have never seen a Pompey shirt.

Kids can be forgiven, as they don't know any better! It's when I used to meet adults on tubes in London who told me that they supported Leeds or Liverpool (as it was in the 60's/early 70's) but would then confess to never having been to their home ground and have absolutely no link to the cities.

Incidentally, back to the original post, the craziest thing I did as a kid, according to the dark side of my family, was to start supporting Saints (then in Div 3 South) rather than the Big Club up the road. Some of those intent on harming me took me to Fratton, while the enlightened side took me to The Dell. Frankly, the former has to be regarded as child cruelty, but of course they were gloating a few years back as we sunk into the abyss, and I was reminded of my foolishness. They're a bit quieter now!

Have to say that the Pompey fans have gone very quiet. After the first couple of wins they were saying things like 'it won't last', but a penny seems to have dropped and they are saying nothing. Just have this rueful and despairing look when I appear on Monday mornings.<laugh> They didn't even say anything when we lost..their spirit is well and truly broken. Sad, ain't it:grin:
