    A few Italian clubs were founded by English/British ex pats.

    AC Milan(English spelling) & Bologna both have the St George Cross as part of their crests

    I think AC Milan was set up by the English and Inter were a mix of folk from other nations, reminds me of playing five aside on holiday.

    St George is the saint of numerous places, including the cities of Milan and Genoa as well as lots of other cities and countries. They've been using it as long as England have!
