Just think how different last season could have been if we had signed Noone in the January window. With form like that he might have been the boost we needed in the second half and enabled Miller to do away with his terrible lack of goals.
Anyway that is history and, on the strength of yesterday, a great future for this season. Not a below average performance on the park and while the likes of Noone, Whitts, Hudson and McNuggs were so impressive, I really liked the look of Tommy Smith. I had raised a number of doubts on here about his signing having never seen him do that well against us and wondering how he would fit in.
How wrong was I? The guy has a great footballer's brain which showed in his positional sense and relationship (already) with McNuggs. He is also not short of some pace and ghosted past their players on more than one occasion. Also, rarely misplaced a pass. Mind you on one occasion HH was playing at rb when Kev went forward on a forray. Just shows the team ethic MM has already instilled.
Also, while Wolves were poor second half and appeared to lack a bit of bottle (where was Karl Henry - he normally puts himself about and gets their team going?) they were a real threat in the first half and Marshy had to make some good saves. And we nearly saw McNuggs score, albeit at the wrong end towards the end.
I thought Jolly Rog didn't have a bad game. He and Stearman really had their hands full with HH and Maynard and then having to cover Zubar who had an absolute nightmare trying to control Noone. Great to see Rog acknowledging our crowd although their manager can't have been too pleased when he did the Ayatollah on request when under pressure with a corner at the Canton End.
Great new version of the Swans anthem and Ebanks-Blake can't have enjoyed the stick he took although fair do's to the guy he kept on smiling.
