I only like watching the big ones but the ryder is my favorite, As for playing then i was hopeless and gave that up as boring........As for greatness then there are many but Tiger in his prime he dominated, So it was good to see him win another Green Jacket after such a long time from his last one......Whoever is the greatest golfer of all time then that is up for debate but Tiger whether you like him or not is a definite contender...
Now I always liked Pontardawe, played there many a time. The sixteenth was fun off the hillside. When the wind whipped up it was a challenging hole, you could struggle to get into the fairway and wind with you, let’s say the cars in the car park got hit once or twice.
I know - we bought a bungalow for my daughter to live in, then ‘had to’ lend the same amount to help my son buy a new apartment in London.
Seeing as we're all name-dropping a bit here's a couple of golfing experiences of my own when working abroad. 1) Awali Golf Club in Bahrain. No grass, just bare baked fairways and oiled greens. Each 'green' had it's own man (Indian labourer) to re-roll the sand after you had been through. The ball leaves a trail so the next person would have a ready made line to follow if it wasn't obliterated! 2) Nuwara Eliya golf course in Sri Lanka. At 6000' above sea level in central Sri Lanka the climate is more akin to the Scottish Highlands than the Tropics. The golf course is like playing at Gleneagles. Fantastic! Colonial club house.
" I only like watching the big ones ". Too much information there, Dai. No disputing that Woods is up there with the best. It's his personality, and character, I don't find attractive.
1) Sounds exactly like the course I lived alongside in The Gambia. Some great photo's there, aswan, all of which are germane to the discussion.
Greatest sporting comeback in history. If he stays injury free he'll dominate the majors for a few more years. What the Masters showed is that the 'new guard' couldn't handle the pressure of Tiger breathing down their necks. Don't think he'll win the British but I I see him winning either the US or PGA major
