I think you had to see it to see how bad it was. With an outrageous call, you think, what the hell is wrong with that official? In this game after a while you knew perfectly well. Others have pointed out the ref set the tone early by calling a non foul on Spurs and ignoring one on Lazio, then made a nice statement by ending the first half before time. But I ran across this quote which sums up how pleased I was with how Spurs' played. "The result was a travesty, 3-0 would have been about right, and the opposition were a disgrace. I thought they were utterly outclassed, on and obviously off the pitch. Tottenham look excellent. For the last few seasons, and speaking as a neutral, there's no team I'd rather watch." We'll have to see how we do, especially against the best teams. But assuming everyone got through this game more or less in one piece, it was very encouraging, including an excellent response to adversity by team and manager. I'm hoping this is the kind of experience that helps bond teams and adds to their determination.
I had a look on a Lazio forum last night and they were even saying how bad the officials had been and that they were riding their luck. I think that says it all, really.
We have to be the unluckiest club around, when will our rotten bad luck with inept and incompetent officiating ever end?... It seems never ending. I thought we played quite well and our tactics restricted Lazio to very few chances, without playing scintillating football we scored 2 good goals and possibly should have had a penalty for a foul on Lennon. But for yet more bad refereeing decisions going against us we would have won that game comfortably.
I agree Barfly., Maybe we should start contributing to the..., hummmn, Referee(s) Benevolent Fund,. you know . We might see a chance of luck then. .........
