Not completely sure Whalley is a great fit into the current diamond system but it is important to have options available if needed. Either way he , like several of the players from last year, will probably never have as good a season performance-wise as they did last year.
Having a Whalley type player on the bench or starting means that by subbing a player then you can completely change the system.
whilst it is not his natural position as you say he can give you something different and has played at the tip of the diamond
