BBC are now saying that we have 'refused to consider' the offer. Genuinely don't want to see Andy leave. Finally found some form at the end of the season and was starting to look like the player we brought from Newcastle. It would be rather foolish of Rodgers to let Carroll go without seeing him play. He said in one of press conferences he did that he wanted to give all of the players a chance to impress in pre-season and I hope this applies for all of the players, including Andy. He gives us another option and with the various competitions we are in for next season (Europa League, League Cup, F.A Cup & Premier League) it's important that we have those options. And by all accounts, Andy wants to stay and prove himself. Good attitude to have and I hope that he can.
Not like he has 80,000 reasons a week to hold that attitude... It's wonderful to see a lot of Liverpool fans have been won round by him though, that usually bodes well for a player
It's on the news, rejected. Case closed. A little psychology from Rodgers perhaps? Instead of a £35 million price tag round his neck, he is now the man fighting for his shirt.
But if Rodgers gets him playing with the bit between his teeth, an angry hungry Carroll could be unplayable. He could end up being one of the best forwards in the country.
I'll admit that it could be one of the reasons! I do think that he does want to prove the doubters, of which there are many, wrong. Himself, and the club, have been reminded of the transfer fee many times and it's what the press focus on a lot. And yeah, it does seem that Liverpool fans want him to stay and give him time to adapt to the new system we'll probably adopt next season. I like him and his end of the season performances were excellent. Hopefully he'll continue them in a Liverpool shirt next season! All in all, I still think he'll be a Liverpool player on the 1st of September.
Must admit I think he deserves another season. As you said Baz, this maybe some sort of ploy from Rodgers to get the fire burning. We just don't know.
I said this on our board, adding that Rodgers (ie duh-der-der-duh... No-nonesense-Man!!!) may cut off the ponytail... I think he'll struggle to be worth 35 mil, ever, but I think he will become a good team player for Liverpool for the future if Brendan uses him and coaches him well. Form at the euros? he looked so terrible and his lack of pace, control and passing was a big factor england couldnt keep possesion vs italy. A truely terrible player that you should never of bought because he aint good enough. If you did by him then around 10m was a more than fair price.
To be fair we did well with Keane to recoup most of the fee back of Spurs. Its better to identify mistakes real quickly and get rid of the players ASAP rather than let them fester on the edges of the team until their value is virtually £0.
Well in your honest opinion who is going to pay more than 10-15 million for him? he is still relativley unproven like
Most probably no one, which is why I think it would be stupid to sell him and we should keep him. If, and I know it's a big if, someone did come in and offer more than £20mil then we should bite their hand off as we could replace with quality and he's never going to be worth more than that.
Yea thats fair enough mate, From a newcastle point of view tho i think they will only be willing to go for the season long loan deal because a transfer is going to require them to spend stupid money when quite honestly the only reason we made a move for him was because rodgers publically stated he would consider loaning him out
To be fair, the Robbie Keane dealings were under a different regime so doesn't really matter now. Plus, Spurs came out worse in the Robbie Keane deal too. Yes, we lost some money but Spurs got a player that was over the hill and did nothing before leaving for free to join LA Galaxy
There could be another reason as to why the offer was made. Perhaps, and I have no knowledge on the subject, Newcastle have only just become aware of 'escape' clauses in Ba's and/or Cisse's contracts?
