Its not just about Grayson, its also the who coaching staff! We can't keep a clean sheet for sh-it and thats one of his major downfalls! How embarrasing to go 4-1 up against preston and end up getting beat 6-4 who incidentally were relegated!
Who would you get in to replace Grayson that would be better? He's actually done a good job on little transfer funds. To lead the team we had last season to 7th was a good achievement. It was the lack of signings in January that led to us missing out on the top 6 but if SG isn't given the money, he can't help that. With key players that he wants to keep leaving every season, and low wages/lack of transfer funds, it's been hard to him to build a competitive squad. We've tried to sign some good players, who have ended up at other clubs, like Bowyer and Andrews to Ipswich. Whilst he does bring in a lot of poor transfers, they are usually frees or loans that are the worst. Do you think Grayson is content bringing in players on these types of deals? Of course not! He'd rather be allowed to sign some permanent players to properly improve the squad. I truely believe that if SG was given £2million to spend, and our wage budget was at an appropriate level for the club, he'd build a team capable of promotion. Gradel, McCormack, Bromby and Lonergran are his only money signings and I think we're all in agreement that they are good players. If he was given a bit more, then he may have to stop settling for his 3rd/4th choice targets. This is just my opinion, but until he actually is given money that his rival managers get, you can't judge him fully.
Perhaps more relevant would be the question 'Who would Bates get in to replace Grayson that would be better?' I shudder to think.
Cheers Shako Guess we'll just have to sit tight and see if there is any activity today, and if there is or isn't I think the next few games are absolutely crucial for this club.
SG can't be a one man band. Who's advising on goalkeeping, defending, strikers etc? Who is he bouncing ideas off of and getting advice on specific areas? I do agree that he doesn't seem to be able to read the tactical situation and make changes, usually making like-for-like substitutions. Have to say that I'm now in the Bates Out camp.
