I've calmed down...................... a bit !
Having 'slept on it', I am not as outraged with the ticket prices as when I first learned about them - although my assessment remains the same.
I can understand the need for Mr.Scally to maximise the financial opportunity - BUT - he needs to give more careful consideration to all the factors involved - not least the considerable competition he will have from BT Sport............ who are already giving GFC a huge amount of extra - unexpected money by choosing to screen the match.
I had to laugh when read, on the Club's website, that Mr. Scally wanted to reward the most loyal fans with a 'cut-price' deal ! ---- what - by hiking the price....... and make no mistake - this is a price hike (( even the so-called 'discount' price )), - when you compare it with the tickets in Round 2.
I know that GFC needs all the money it can get....... it's a pity none of it ever gets spent on players ! I know we need to balance the books etc etc........... so - why do we throw thousands of free tickets at people who can hardly be called 'loyal' or who need to be rewarded ? ( is any STH getting a refund for us not playing Bury ? ) ----- please don't tell me it's all to do with advertising / marketing - because we just don't see these people return - until the next freebie -- and even then their numbers are dwindling.
I might give a better appreciation of the pricing policy if we didn't have unexpected tv money coming in - but - we are ----- and Mr. Scally needs to understand that supporters will vote with their pockets - supporters cannot treat GFC as a registered charity - whose Chief is taking, from the very same supporters, 10 times, or more, most peoples annual salary.
The price hike is NO reward for any Gills fan - and a real kick in the proverbials for the more dedicated supporter. Mr. Scally might just get a good crowd (( depending on your definition of 'good.' )) - BUT - it will probably contain a lot of people who go to Priestfield once a decade ! and then disappear --- Well, if Mr.Scally is happy with that, then I have to say -- "Good luck" -- BUT - I think that it may create more of a long-term adverse reaction from loyal fans - who truly deserve to be rewarded - instead Mr. Scally might be trying to kill the 'golden goose' before it has had time to get fat...............................
......... and where will it end ? ( some of you might be asking the same question about this post ) -- what price a ticket in Round 4 ?
Will I need to prostitute Mrs alwaysright if we get to Wembley ?? she's already on alert if we get into the championship -- remember the 33% price rise back then -- I was still loyal enough (( new definition of loyal = stupid )), to pay for 3 season tickets........................
.......... oh well -- it's just as well I've not done much of my Christmas shopping -- I have about £25 to £30 to spend on everyone on my list (( some of who I never see from one year to the next )) -- any ideas for a present ? ( none of them are big football fans ) .............. did I say that I had calmed down ?
