I thought the thorough detailed analysis of Saints on MOTD was spot on. Good of them to spend a minute talking about a small provincial club.
According to the report I read, JWP has become just the fourth player in Premier league history to score 10+ penalties and 10+ direct free kicks. The other three are Thierry Henry, Cristiano Ronaldo and Ian Harte. I’m surprised Beckham didn’t achieve this when at Utd.
Just got to pop out and get some milk and veg and I'll get on it. Don't worry about previous superstitions, the mechanism has been reversed.
Did Beckham take pens? Was too young when he was at Utd to remember but don’t recall him taking them regularly anywhere else (admittedly Real had the Galacticos so probably a better option to take them)
Sky Ref watch confirms the Broja penalty was legit. Good work by VAR and teamwork with the Referee. Makes a change for us to benefit.
A touch of the night includes an element of sexual attractiveness about it rather than pure evil. In other words, gets the ladies’ hearts fluttering.
we've been on an off-day since we lost Ogbonna, Zouma & Cresswell. Diop is Championship material at best, Ogbonna would've taken the yellow rather than let him go 1v1 on Dawson. And Masuaku isn't even a footballer, somehow we still have him for another 3 years. Lots of fans are moaning about the penalty, I didn't think it was one myself, Borja was already on his way down from the barge outside the box, but I think I preferred a pen to losing another CB for 3 matches.
West Ham fans claimed that the "Penalty" challenge started outside of the box. "Sky Ref watch" just confirmed that it was a legitimate decision, good work between VAR and the Referee. However I think Kevin Friend, having established that it was a foul, had, due to the vagaries of the current Rule book, an alternative decision, he could have given the foul outside of the box, but would have had to send Dawson off for denying a goal scoring opportunity. That may have made a big difference to the outcome, but is hypothetical now.
For the sake of football, it was the sort of pen that should be given regardless of who it was for or against. The referring “team” got it spot on & hats off to them.
looked like he managed to fall over our player once he'd reached the box to me. Personally I was surprised he was still managing to play, considering he was lying prostrate on the floor for 2 mins pretending he had a career ending injury just a few minutes earlier.
Oh come on, even with claret glasses on that’s nonsense. He got clattered but was attempting to score a belter of a goal before Dawson finally took him out. You don’t have to like the guy, but let’s play fair on that one. It was nowhere near a dive.
