I've been very impressed by Van De Beek so far this game. His passing and decision making has been very good.

 

He got attracted to the ball and left his man completely unmarked to pass the ball into the net. He’s decent going forward but not useful defensively.

 

I am still a bit confused about what role he actually fills.
what is his "job" supposed to be?

 

He's not a defensive midfielder. I'm not going to judge him on one moment which isn't his role anyway, but how he's performed over the full 45 so far going forward.

Why not look at what he's doing creatively? He's controlled the midfield and passed the ball well.

 

He has kept possession well and made some great passes but I still fail to see his actual role.

 

Based on today's game, as a deep lying playmaker.

He roams as well and is always looking for the ball today. For the first time I've seen him play with confidence.

Did you see his pass to Greenwood btw?

 

Yep, expected Mason to score from that but in fairness i think it was his first touch.

 

I don't see us winning this btw.

I think we must be on about 18 shots but only 2/3 on target.

Just not been clinical enough up front and I don't see that changing

 

We're just not stretching them wide enough tbh.

You look at the huge spaces up front on the left and right when we have possession, we're not using those enough.

 

2nd half we've been relentless going forward.

But we've been trying to force the play, force the ball through the middle too much.

 

Yeah and snatching at stuff too much.

Level heads were needed.

Even Bruno's been shooting every time he gets the ball.

 

I think there was defo a message at half-time to pass it quicker, increase the pace.

Nowt wrong with that, but you still need to pick your passes.

Even with a complete reserve team, I would have hoped that we would go through especially at home. We had some pretty passing in midfield but just didn’t have that final touch. I would liked us to have a good run in that comp but no point crying over it. We are out and we move on.

 

The attitude was right, I thought the team selection was just about ok as well.

They scored an early goal and then set up to defend in traditional Moyes style with 10 behind the ball.

We kept attacking but couldn't break them down. We were at fault for that with our finishing but NOT in our approach play until the last 20-30 mins when we tried too hard to make something happen instead of being a bit more level headed.

Disappointed we lost but not by the attitude of the players or the manager tbh.

 

27 shot on goal but only 6 on target says it all as far as our performance goes.

 

That was the only fault, we battered them but lacked any composure on the final shot/attempt.
