Most teaching staff were at school though, looking after key workers' kids. The government ****ed up lockdown, they ****ed up testing, they told teachers needed to be in the classrooms and then Public Health England blamed them for spreading COVID in classrooms so is there any wonder why some might not want to go back to work?

****ting on teachers has become fashionable because cranks think they're 'academic elites indoctrinating impressionable minds with subversive ideas'. Same cranks who think COVID is a myth.

I thought other than the penalty where he seemed weirdly tame he had a reasonable game. A lot of those West Ham goals were from defensive issues or Hammers just getting into good positions, none were real howlers for him to concede. West Ham's second team is a lot better than Leeds' so the result was hardly surprising.

Most teachers nowadays are younger though, so as we all know, that makes it all their fault.

Took a step to his left for the pen as if to say "Well this is my effort and oh dear it's gone past me, shame".

    Have they as **** like.

I haven't once been sent home, in fact until the Summer holidays (of which I gave up two weeks to volunteer for out of school club so that other parents could go back into work), I was in every single day, often teaching children I had no knowledge of in terms of needs, barriers to learning or otherwise. I literally had to learn as I went along, which in teaching is ****ing dangerous. All staff were in, regardless of which year groups or bubbles were. This allowed schools to spread out children into smaller bubbles so we could at least do some teaching.

You're obviously not a teacher, I get it, but to suggest that it's unfair that the education sector are unhappy about being thrust into a building with hundreds of other people with no mandated PPE (until very recently) and asked to pick up where they left off is so ill informed.

Teachers are paid regardless and so we should be, but I've not met a teacher who wasn't itching to go back to normal in September (or as close to normal as you can get), even with the obvious trepidations we face. Nobody gets into teaching for the money, I could get paid double my salary sitting in an office pointing at a spreadsheet. Holidays are pretty sweet, but they're for the kids. It's a perk of the job.

We take it seriously because at the end of the day, it's not just staff at risk, it's quite clearly affecting children, both physically and mentally, not to mention the detrimental effect it's had on their ability to learn and the large chunk of the school year they missed. Being at home was hell for me, as already documented on here my mental health is up and down at the best of times, so to be doing something drastically different in such a short space of time really did me in.

Not easy to find statistics on things outside of the published lines of information, but by the end of June 5 under 16's had died with the virus (not necessarily of it) and 71 had been in intensive care. Couldn't find any more up to date figures.

I realise that although it may not be serious for kids they could pass it onto more vulnerable people.

Not 100% replying to your post but a general point regarding kids and the virus.

I have 3 close family members who work in school, and they are the same.

I have previously worked in a school office, and while that isn't a teaching role, I know what they do by being around them constantly.

Some people have no clue about what teachers actually do.

Not disputing your case. Google 1st line on a search.

Supply teachers have seen the biggest impact, with 82.5% being put on furlough or having their contracts come to an end. This is compared with 29.6% of part-time and just 17.9% of full-time teachers.May 14, 2020

Must admit I didn't see the game tonight but looks like we might have massively missed Smallwood? Will be a real blow if he is injured as he's the first player we've had for several seasons who looks like he really is a genuine CDM. I'm afraid I don't think Dan Batty is anywhere near as good in that role.

Yes, but that's not because they want to be. Supply teachers don't get their full pay if they don't go in as they're not on a fixed salary, I have no idea how that would have been worked out.
