Yes, Basically that dtlw and on to Norwich. Yes I'm pissed off losing a game of football. Two days ago I was over the moon after winning a game of football. Hopefully in another 5 days I will be over the moon again. That's football for you
Ps. To everyone moaing about the second halves, that wasn't the problem today. The problem was the first half.
Because we're always an injury or two away from having sweet fk all in terms of enticing bench options. Tonight we had exactly zero wide players beyond the two that started. Zero genuine fullbacks. Zero strikers. I'd have brought on Clasie and gone a bit more compact, or had Reed available to do the same. Of course it's his job. However, if you give a carpenter a frozen cod and thumbtacks for tools and tell him to build you a house, the end result might not be what you had in mind.
Did Long run out steam? He has put in a lot of work in the last two games, Steve Davis was still running his socks off even at the end. Romeu's booking will be costly, he played well tonight. Was Martina caught out because he isn't that good or was it down to inexperience? I just reckon RonKo gambled with the wrong subs, but that is easy to say in hindsight.
This season has been so far the weirdest season i have ever witnessed in all my 57 years of watching football. There is only one really stand out team in Leicester who incidentally just managed to stay up last season......There is no team in the premiership who's plans are going to plan and i find that odd. It just don't make any sense when you see the results of games that have been played, OK you get the odd surprise but it has been happening all season for it to be a fluke and i have never ever seen usually good players playing so badly for all teams bar Leicester this season.......It is getting frustrating knowing you have players in your side not playing to the standard you know they can and look as if they don't care as long as they pick up their mega wages. I feel sorry for the managers as you cant blame them for their players not performing to a standard he knows they can.........This is definitely a weird season...
No one has mentioned the fact that the game actually changed when Carroll and Lanzini came on at half time. They were both coming back from injury, so while not 100% match fit were fresher than our players and put our defence under real pressure. Yes, we should have been further ahead at that point but let's just accept that we weren't. I don't blame the players or Koeman for this: we had no one on the bench who could retrieve the situation and the players for the most part ran themselves into the ground. One of those things, line drawn, move on.
Despite all the pressure, first half, the key moment, for me, was the second half breakaway when Davis and Long were 2 on 1 with the last defender, and Davis tried to beat the keeper from 40 yards, with his weaker foot, instead of running on and drawing the last defender to him, before releasing Long. That one incident might be the barometer by which to gauge the tiredness of individual players. Davis was everywhere, first half, but seemed to stop breaking into space, behind their midfield, not long into the second half, so was probably spent. On quite a few occasions today, we reverted to trying to keep the ball, and losing it, when hitting it into the crowd would have been a better option, and could have given players a breather. Still, for me, 3 points from the Christmas games is a good return, especially after that run of form, so I'm not going to spit my dummy or throw my toys out of the pram.
Is this the same carpenter that went shopping in Poundland and not B&Q and bought said frozen cod and thumbtacks in the summer?
My problem is there have been too many "one of those things". We've wasted too many winning positions by not turning up for the second half.
Criticism is fine, good infact. Continual toy throwing at every defeat is a bit immature and pathetic.
