If West Ham play the same as they did last time they were on SKY then they will pass the ball around nicely.

Not sure the West Ham fans would agree with you and on Saturday Le God kept saying they were geeting increasingly desperate against Leeds. At times the ball had snow on it!.
We will pass it round but play it long when needed.

Ok, let's put aside the simple fact that hoofball is far less entertaining and concentrate on it as an effective tactic to be used throughout the game. There is a simple reason why all teams don't play hoofball, and it's because it is a game of chance. A team punts the ball upfield, and whether or not that team are geared for hoofball, the percentage chances of retaining possession are greatly diminished. Modern football is all about retaining possession, and diminishing the chances of losing it. If an attack breaks down you have to defend. If you have possession you are in control, you are attacking, even if you are in your own half of the field, and the team that defends is wasting precious energy covering every exit to stop you. With hoofball, you essentially make it easier for them, and it really only works well as a surprise tactic. Obviously, if the seconds are draining away at the end of extra time, and the referee is about to put the whistle in his mouth, a team will gamble. But while there is a reasonable amount of time left on the clock, I don't believe a team should go near the tactic.
Unless they're facing a defence where the tallest defender is something like 5' 6"
WHU supporters come across here from their relatively quiet NOT606 forum and occasionally pop up with the you-talk-about-us-a-lot statement. Trixter, no offence mate, but don't kid yourself about any obsession we might have about WHU. The simple fact is, is that NOT606 Southampton is a very, very popular forum indeed, and we chat about lots of issues and subjects surrounding football. Your team just happens to be somewhere in the frame, and so occasionally we chat about it. Nothing more.
We talk about WHU and Reading all the time because............they are our main rivals for the autos this season. Surprise surprise. Next season we will be talking about??????????? Who knows may be the same division again and whoever is at the top (or bottom) near us. Maybe the Prem and whoever is top, euro or bottom near us. That's football
Personally I think Big Sam will go all guns blazing in the air tonight. Middlesboro on a poor run of form, he will play his strongest side (if he knows what that is) however I think he will put 2 up front rather than 1 he has been doing.

Spot on TSS. Only riased this thread as the game is on TV. Must admit though I thought it might get a reaction from West ham fans keeping an eye on our Board.
If anyone is going to be playing "hoof ball" tonight then it will be us. Adkins said that Hull´s pitch (from what he had seen on dvd´s) is not in great condition, so I think we might mix it up a little and try go for the more direct route. West Ham, on the other hand, have a decent pitch so they have the opportunity to knock it around and play football...but I doubt Big Sam will like that idea.
I read a rather witty and acerbic comment on another forum that given WHU's brand of hoofball, the east end of London hasn't been subjected to an aerial bombardment of the magnitude seen since the Blitz
As someone stated above, there is the element of surprise in playing the longer ball at times as happened on Saturday when Fox put Schneiderlin through to set up Ricky's opener. Adkins revealed afterwards that they had worked on that in training.

I agree the West Ham not606 forum is very quiet. Not because of a shortage of fans (although I know thats not what you were implying) but because most of our fans use dedicated fan sites like WHO and KUMB.
You make a fair point about your variety of topics.
I wouldn't betting that after southampton football club though, we are the most commonly discussed topic on here.

west hams pitch is in excellent nick- as the ball is never on it, there are small craters around the 25 yard mark where the ball lands
I'd say that any talk of WHU comes under the topic of 'Southampton Football Club', as we only talk about your club in reference to our own interests. You are one of two of our main rivals (in terms of league position) at the moment, why wouldn't we be talking about you? I've seen KUMB and Southampton have been talked about more this season than last season, wonder why that is...

As AlanFC says, Adkins has mentioned the Hull surface so expect more direct football. Nigel has said before that different games can call for different tactics. Remember that long ball which led to a goal when we were drawing at Brighton. And the subsequent remark that Saints were just Dagenham and Redbridge without Lambert and Lallana. Don't think it suits us as we like to play possession football, but personally won't complain if we gain a point or three because Davis hoofs it to Lallana.

I'll start off by saying that I have always admired West Ham as a club and have never really liked Reading particularly, but on the occasions that I have watched both sides, Reading have impressed me much more. I have no doubt that if West Ham had ours or Reading's manager, they would be going up as Champions, but they are stuck with Big Sam, who is becoming ever more panicky as the season nears it's conclusion. The difference really is the manager and I can see Hammer's fans becoming evermore frustrated with their's. This is only my opinion and is in no way a dig at the Hammers and their great supporters.
