Well done Spurf, you got it, some of your fellow Spurs fans may need some help? Pretty sure when they redo the process, it will be stipulated you MUST keep the track, can't see Spurs/Levy wanting that, so I don't see you getting involved. I wonder if Boris' 17 million bung will still stand?

The main problems with letting West Ham rent it is that the government will still be responsible for the upkeep and repairs. Who knows how much damage to the OS will be done by their fans when they get relegated to League One(assuming it doesn't happen this year). On the otherhand it'll give the Pride of East London, Leyton Orient a chance to take it over when the bailiffs kick WHam out.

So it appears there is still some mileage in this for Levy, but on the surface it looks to me like this move was designed to castrate Spurs & Orient.

Yeah, i agree with you. The 1 concrete thing that Spurs/Orient have "won" is the guarantee that the running track will always remain. That was something Levy was trying to get enforced in the contract between OPLC and Wet Spam.

Personally i can't see how renting a ground on a year to year basis is the way forward for a football club. Hardly provides security does it? Or am i misunderstanding it?

    Another thought:
The 2017 decision is due in november. They've clearly made this move with the aim of there being no doubt to using the stadium to host this event. If we don't win 2017 are they likely to change their mind again?

No idea mate. I know Chelsea do though. However, i was thinking more that the "year to year basis" bit was the bad bit rather than renting. Renting on a long term lease would be ok.

    Ahh - thanks Ensil

It is normal for a business to rent their buildings.

Coventry rent the Ricoh Arena and that seems to be going well...

There's obviously a reason for that. Let's face it City's owners could buy the whole of Manchester with the loose change in their piggy bank, if they wanted to.

This Olympic Stadium thing has been a sorry story from the beginning, what a mess.

I see we have another typical deluded, arrogant Hammer on here. West Ham did not even enter the World Cup in 1966, let alone win it. It's a competition for national teams. More evidence that West ham fans are the most deluded, arrogant fans in English football.

Re the OS, it's too early to call ATM for me as to who wins/loses from this decision. My main concern is that the track stays for at least fifty years, thus hampering West Ham enormously. The atmosphere will be rubbish, even worse than the current pathetic 'support' at the Boo-leyn Ground.

For their entire history West Ham have been in Spurs' shadow, and as long as the running track stays, I'm absolutely confident that will remain the case. Probably even with with a decent stadium we'd continue to outperform them, but that was their one realistic chance of competing with us, and hopefully the stadium will now stay as an athletics/football 'bodge up'.

The name is tongue in cheek young man as I am a clever c--t really and will now expose you as the dimwit....I'm not talking about your skanky 40m <cough> present. I'm talking about the future costs to turn it into a more football orientated stadium. Alterations to the buildings, the structure maybe, its not good to go as it is...is it? And as has just come on the radio...you have not got enough funds or income from the Championship :D, and thats from your own club! <doh>

I think it was a take on Alf Garnett. If you're too young to remember the programme, one of his catchphrases was, "It was yer West 'Am what won yer world cup"

The thing is, West Ham never owned the stadium - it was owned by the Legacy Stadium Partnership, who were going to charge rent to West Ham for the right to use the stadium. The fact the LSP happens to be half run by Newham Council and half run by West Ham United FC is not and never was remotely suspect, dodgy, shifty, or corrupt...

We'll see where this goes, but West Ham paying rent to West Ham doesn't sound like a bad deal for them and that's gone now.
