What’s the old saying? One swallow does not make a summer? Nat Phillips had a good game yesterday which is great for us and I hope that it continues for another 2 months (at least) and that he proves that he is on a par with Lovren....but I’m not holding my breath....it would be totally unrealistic and unfair to have that expectation of him too. We were critical of Lovren because we expected more from him. We have no right to do that to Philips when (if) those situations occur.

I agree that Shaq brought us some guile in midfield and he even surprised me with his defensive duties but we both know that this is not his strength...but it was nice to see....Thiago will bring the guile and the industry. Also agree that Jones was disappointing and Wini imo has been off the pace since the summer rumours, which is a shame.

as long as we keep grinding out results until we learn to play without VvD and without the necessary training, who cares about any of it tbh?
Thought Gini was our best players for most of the game yesterday. Took the ball well and broke lines through lines with it. He keeps the ball really well and although attacking isn’t his natural game he did it better yeaterday.

Agree, I thought he was very good yesterday

We are obviously struggling injury wise, is it the case that others are aswell?
My only gripe with 5 per game is how it increases stoppages and breaks up the natural flow of the game. It was noticeable after the restart how
this affects the duration of 'injury time' at the end of the game. The usual 3 or 4 minutes regularly became 7, 8 or more with 30 seconds per change.

It shouldn’t make any difference because you can’t make the changes in any more than 3 instances. The only thing that might make it slower is waiting for 2 players to come off the pitch but if the refs implement the go off at nearest touch line Rule then it shouldn’t add any extra time in comparison ton3

Does the 30 seconds per player rule still apply or has it changed to 'per change'?

Doesn't interfere with the point you were making, however... the five changes can be made over four instances but you can only interrupt the game three times; changes at HT are allowed without counting towards the three instances.

Did I hear that right on yesterdays commentary that Matip and Gomez have never started a game together for the club? <yikes>
Matips injury history and a previously ever present Virgil?
This is the salient point. Yes, the commentator did say that, but Virgil's presence means it's not that surprising that the other two hadn't started together.
Just commentators liking to have something to say.
They talked for nearly four minutes at the beginning of yesterday's match before actually starting to follow the game.

Although Matip and Gomez were both at LFC two years before VvD's arrival. Joe missing a full year with his ACL would play a part also.

Yeah given one of those was Ht and has no impact didn’t feel the need to mention it.
