We scraped it.... yay! Who else knew Gnabry would miss? He hasn't done a thing right today. For that matter, I don't think any of these kids are good enough yet. Maybe Akpom was the best of the bunch?
Thank **** that is over with. We're going to get embarrassed if we play anything but our best available 11 against Chelsea next.
None of them are really the finished article. Most won't even be in the squad vs Chavski. The experience is always good, and to win it is a bonus.
Here lies the problem with going through. If Wenger plays the younger players they'll likely get buggered, and if he plays a strong side it'll look like he's taking the tournament seriously and if they lose it's bad for morale.
He'll go with something in between. Wenger always says that he picks a team who he thinks can win the game.... though usually that means a team that isn't quite good enough.
He has to really. They'll probably fare pretty well too, but the League Cup just strikes me as an annoying tournament to expel energy on. First world problems, I guess
I thought some of the kids did ok. They are obviously not at the level where a whole team filled with them can easiy take on premiership opponents, but they managed a penalty win and are through which is what was needed. As we saw with Gnabry last week, if we slot in one or two of thesee players amongst the first team they can be viable stand ins and for me it wouldn't be the end of the world if we see a few of these players hovering around the edges of the squad looking for opportunities this season and next.
Wasn't a dominant performance. More of a "meh" feel from both sides. Thought our Back 5 were the better players. Young guys did ok but was hoping for more of an assertive performance. Bendy looked ok but needs to sharpen up. All in all a "meh" performance.
