I was thinking to myself before, reality is football will be better to watch and none fun in this league for the fans. But to have any chance of holding on to the exciting players a bit longer and progressing the club again we need to be promoted. Aye made me laugh now I have seen the bloke pushed him before even better. They seemed out to get him today.
They definitely targeted him and he stood up to it brilliantly imo. Never rolled about and gave back as much as he got.
That's ****ing brilliant. Earlier in the season we struggled against the teams that came to bully us. Now these young lads will fight back. Teams can't bully us anymore and they certainly can't out play us.
Have we had a better run of form away from home? I reckon we've won 10 and drawn 6 out of 22 games which is some going. No wonder we sell out our ticket allocation most games, a magnificent effort.
It's great that those who do all the travelling, shouting , singing and encouraging get so many good days. I don't go away now, but an away win always makes me think about those getting back on their buses and into cars and trains etc. We'd sell the bloody things anyway mind!
I looked at the home and away record. If we only had away games we would be 4th. On home form we would be close to a relagation battle.
Just watched the extended highlights and I think the real turning point of the game was at the start of the second half when West Brom came out like a train and everyone was throwing themselves in front of the ball defending - even Amad. Something I missed at the time that was commentated on when Cirkin scored his first is that we have scored in 27 out of 28 games - even with a striker that's a hell of a stat
Sunderland: Tony Mowbray 'amazing' commitment in perfect weekend https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/s...y-mowbray-amazing-commitment-perfect-weekend/ LUKE O'Nien set a 5am alarm on Sunday to drive to West Brom and play a starring role for Sunderland in the crucial Championship win - less than 24 hours after his wife gave birth. Mowbray hailed "amazing" O'Nien, who was adamant he wanted to play despite spending the early part of the weekend at his wife's side in hospital and having his newborn back home for the first time on Saturday night. O'Nien travelled on his own on Sunday, linked up with the squad in the team hotel and then put in a fine display at the heart of the defence as the Black Catscame from behind to win 2-1 and climb into the top six of the Championship. Mowbray said: "O'Nien, I say it all the time, is an amazing human being. He's a unique footballer. "I haven't come across too many like him, who sets up his own businesses, has his own podcast, talks about developing young people into leaders. "He's having discussions with me talking about pre-season and saying 'what are the non-negotiables going to be gaffer' and I'm thinking Luke, you just concentrate on passing it to us and winning a few headers! "But it's amazing for him and his family. He left at half-five on Sunday morning, got here for half eight, had breakfast with the team and played. It was his first night with the new baby in the house. "He's a really impressive human being and I would never have any fears about him. Whatever he chooses to do in his life after football he'll be a success because he's a driven guy. I had no fears about him turning up and putting in a performance. "Great credit to him, less than a day after his child's born he's right out there in the middle of it, it's amazing." O'Nien was harshly adjudged to have fouled John Swift when West Brom were awarded a penalty in first half stoppage time at the Hawthorns but was immense in the second half as Sunderland kept the hosts out and struck two goals through Dennis Cirkin Mowbray said: "I thought it was a really soft penalty. I didn't see a lot of contact until the boy was on the floor, but great that we could recover and get the three points and be in with a shout with eight, nine, 10 other teams."
Always find them a bit contrived - if we were to score a late winner in an important game, the last thing I'd be thinking about would be turning the camera round to film my own reaction Maybe I'm just a grumpy old fart
There’s a brilliant photo of Cirkin’s winner in this report that I can’t quite manage to post: https://amp.theguardian.com/football/2023/apr/23/west-brom-sunderland-championship-match-report Get in, it’s there!
My best away day this season. Cracking day from start to finish and what a result. My one small regret is that I took loads of bait with me to last the day, as the food in the pub we were in looked bloody lovely.
Erm... i had my phone stolen at the match! Does that work? Ha Ha. What a day man. Cant pretend I am feeling fresh this morning mind
THE GUARDIAN The game turned in the 45th minute. Albion took the lead after Luke O’Nien brought down Swift just inside the box for a clear penalty. Swift stepped up and calmly rolled the spot-kick low down the middle, comfortably beating Patterson, who dived left.
Coventry also have the small matter of a game against Birmingham who will be bang up for it according to Brum lads I know. Were not complimentary about their conduct whilst tenants at St Andrews.
