See Stats. Fonte suddenly became a bit un easy on the ball in the second half, without any real explanation. Stats though.
So much to like about JWP as a player, yet frustrating that he isn't a finished product or that we don't have a role for him. He never stops running, and he passes well. Extremely intelligent player, and he seems to be the type who will eventually grow into a team leader. But where do you play him? If he were a better tackler, or a bit larger he would be great as defensive-oriented CM/deep lying playmaker. If he could finish, or dribble a bit better, or make the shorter, creative passes he'd be a great attacking center mid. As it is, he just doesn't fit that well anywhere. Is there still a role for a somewhat well-rounded player who can do a little of everything but whose primary purpose is as a midfield general to receive and distribute passes from almost anywhere on the pitch, keep the ball moving, control the tempo, and link up the defense and attack? If there were, we'd have two of the best in JWP and Davis.
On the other hand, we won't have to fight off big offers for James...he goes about his work in an invisible manner, being appreciated by team mates and manager. JWP's strength are between the ears and his dead ball delivery. It is frustrating that he hasn't got at least the odd goal from free kicks....especially now he has a rival for that in VVD.
