I don't know why but I really think Barbet could come good, despite him not covering himself in glory this year. I think alongside a commanding and more physical centre half he could be a lot better. So we could maybe get away with one really good CB with Masterson/Cameron/Kakay as cover. Unless we carry on with three at the back when we do need two. Who that newCnew is, I have no idea...

I thought Mastertson was looking quite promising, but he was awful last night.
Definitely need a decent centre back. I wouldn't let Cameron back into the squad at all. He's "gone" and was just terrible last night.
Amos is poor, which means we need a defensive midfielder to play alongside Ball and possibly another midfield player too if we play a three.
The lanky lad from the Laticks looks ok.
Kakay is very inexperienced but could come good at right back. He must stop diving in mind.

Definitely agree about Cameron. The bloke is a liability when in possession. I like Kakays enthusiasm and hopefully his positioning will improve. Why oh why we try passing the ball out from the back when we clearly arent capable is beyond me. A new centre back, a new left back as I think Manning will leave, a replacement for Eze and BOS, a central midfielder......a striker...sweet jesus we need a new team!!!

Really pleased we put in a shift last night. Could have been very easy to roll over. WBA looked understandably nervous, and I fear for them next season if they don't recruit well.

I saw Bilic have some words with Eze, wonder what that could be about? As for his goal.....just sensational. He's every bit a £20m player, who knows what we'll get for him, but not a bad way to sign off on Sky, by far and away the best player on the pitch.
Eze was very good last might, but so was Diangana.

The thing that jumps out at me here is how few draws we had compared to the teams above us. We weren't that far behind in the number of wins. As Beth said, even an average defence would have seen us push far up the table. If we do get Kieffer Moore in we then really need to prioritise a decent CB. Replacing Eze has to come behind a CB as we can hope Chair fills his shoes, at least partially.

Should we start an end of season review thread as we're bordering on that now?
I dont think Chair is close to replacing Eze myself. Hope we can raise enough funds by selling him, Manning, and a Keeper to get a more physical presence in up front, in central midfield, CB and a LB. But unfortunately it looks like we are letting BOS go way too low. A bidding war on Eze may see him go unfortunately as well, but it should be well over 20 million. Those funds will need using well.

They'll soon learn when they don't get the offer they were expecting and will have to settle for what they get. Doesn't matter if they've factored in the pandemic, they can't create the offer the expect from thin air.
Hope so. Although Wigan, Sheffield Wednesday and of course Cardiff are proof enough that there are still many reckless owners out there who struck lucky once and think they have the Midas touch. Put them in charge of your transfer purchases and you will get suckered in to pay over the odds for players who are well past their sell by date. Especially if they have a commonal garden Harold Redknapp type character advising them

Keep up Bob. Ossie and I worked that out yesterday. D'you reckon we could persuade Boris or Rishi or our man in government the Govemeister to give us some money?. They've promised it to everyone else who has asked. I know I know, Should be on the Politics Thread. Just could not resist.

Masterson definitely needs more game time before we can make a really fair judgement. Agree there is potential but we all know he's far from the finished article, which sadly means he will have poor games. Forgot Amos is off too, so we definitely need someone in that position. Hopefully the type of position we can pick up a decent freebie. We'll need a few of them...

All I can say was Eze was only starting to come good this time last year. He did not seem to last a match in 2018/2019
This year he has nearly played every minute and has been outstanding, strong, clever, class.
BOS was not good at the start of this season, and only started to become good after Birmingham away...which was December2019

We would have bitten off the hand that offered us 5 million for BOS last October

I hope we can look back next year at Kakay , Shodipo and Chair and say how much they have come on too

Eze has been a far better player than Chair is now from at least since he was on loan at Wycombe. As I remember he played every game under McClaren the season before last and was frequently brilliant. Shodipo could come good, but I don't see him developing the physique and ball holding skill of BOS. Kakay certainly looks a good prospect and has arguably been our best defensive player during these weird games with no crowd.
